Central West End
[previous] :: [next]On Friday, I walked around the Central West End neighborhood of St. Louis. CWE borders the northeast side of Forest Park. Central West End didn't suffer to depopulation to the extent of the rest of the City. The neighborhood has a diversity of housing, including expensive high rises, affordable apartments, old large mansions on private streets, and modern lofts.
Spike, the resident cat of Left Bank Books, was sitting in the display case as I walked by.
The Eugene Field School designed by William Wittner (famous for his many schoolhouses) in 1901 is currently being rehabbed for lofts. The Park Plaza has long been a prominent part of the CWE's skyline The new Park East Tower looming Euclid's streetscape

The CWE defines America's, pre-World War I (City Beautiful) urban brilliance. It continues to be a vibrant,quintessential American neighborhood with an incredible future increasingly populated by people who appreciate its place in American history.
