Re: Richmond

Nice image. Who took this photo and who's graffiti is that are the questions that come to mind. I will just have to look up Richmond, Virginia, Skulz and find out is my guess.

hahah: banksy imitation

Damn: 3rd Jul 2005 - 16:39 GMT

Sure it makes a statement, but that is one shitty stencil... plus, i've seen this one way too many times, the point of making stencils is to be original and to make people think after they see it. This stencil was good, but this guy ruined it

stencil king: its a banksy rip off

pupstar: 20th Jul 2005 - 14:17 GMT

yeah, total banksy copy. mate, you should have stayed in and got an early nite like.

ion one: what is that?

SNAK3: THAT MEANS MORE OR LESS A BAD INTERPRETATION.

jimi: 12th Aug 2005 - 04:08 GMT

why risk stenciling an imatation not to mention shitty banksy copy. this person probably has no political views anyway.

????: 25th Aug 2005 - 21:36 GMT

im not gonna lie yea ima toy can any burner help tell me how to make an ill stencil

connor: what the hell is it (bansky copy)

DAZE: 1st Oct 2005 - 01:34 GMT

i think stencil graffiti is a new way of tagging its not only leaving your name, but your mark

haha: 1st Oct 2005 - 17:18 GMT

Looks like a man wearing a chiken hat holding a bomb..

Am I wrong?

Snake: 8th Oct 2005 - 04:33 GMT

100% banksy copy. Banksy uses blank paints and his stencils are alot more detailed then that. For those of you wo don't know.. its meant to be a little girl hugging a bomb. Look up "banksy stencil" on google and you'll see his versions.

Piece out

Vandella X: 9th Oct 2005 - 06:56 GMT

This is disturbing considering why "Skulz" is a person of interest in a murder investigation. Besides disturbing-is also not well done. Please someone yank this pic...for Taylors sake.

Peter: a "murder investigation"? huh?

JLS: 10th Oct 2005 - 18:43 GMT

He's such a freak. All this "innocent until proven guilty crap." I can appreciate how our legal system works at times, but I think I have enough evidence to hang him right now...

LurkerGurl: 11th Oct 2005 - 01:49 GMT

It's amazing what search on "Skulz" will turn up now. Aka. Darkodeath. Aka LineNowhere. Aka Line_Nowhere. Aka Ben Fawley. :-P I know I'm leaving some out. heh

Miss Dizzy: 17th Oct 2005 - 13:03 GMT

This man is a murderer!! Have some respect for the family and pull these pictures!!

Peter: 17th Oct 2005 - 13:49 GMT

its just one picture, actually. did you bother to look at it?

also: how does this photo disrespect "the family"? it was posted long before this recent drama.

i think its a tad of a stretch (not to mention grossly reactionary) to think that this photo would "disrespect the family" at all.

tek 10 : heh! i dont see it

Sara: 2nd Nov 2005 - 11:14 GMT

wat do ya call dat? a banksy copy... well an attempt

farked: 3rd Nov 2005 - 23:21 GMT

Copy schmopy. This is what I like about art. An image can be created and manifested into other people and spread like a virus. The same with music, riddums and the like.

WHY U GOTA RIP OFF BANSKY U COULD OF AT LEAST COPIED IT TO THE FULLEST AND MADE IT LOOK GOOD

tribe": this mocks bansky's art

Og: 11th Nov 2005 - 18:26 GMT

If its not a banksy rip off its usually some pointless celebrity's face. The main reason that banksy is successful i reckon is cos his sense of humour comes through in his work... which is also of a high standard.

BeGz^: 20th Nov 2005 - 21:47 GMT

Banksey man is the best stencil artist around..no one elses work comes close to his hes the original and the one and only..

pace: 22nd Nov 2005 - 21:31 GMT

sorry banksey, try wanksey.
mate get your own ideas.

peeps: 23rd Nov 2005 - 06:05 GMT

Art and it's originality is naturally subject to critique. It's interesting to see works like Banksey's, and I'm sure that his work has been copied time and time again. But wouldn't you say that it's comparing apples to oranges to put copies like this one up against Banksey's original? The peace/anti-war statement is hardly new, nor is grafitti. The person who created this copy apparently appreciates Banksey's style and was wanting to make the same statement using that style. To me, graffiti is graffiti--it is meant to send a message of some kind to those who understand the image(s). The very idea of graffiti started with one person--all graffiti that has been done since has been copied from that person, so in essence--they're all lacking originality of thought in how to convey their messages, and so much of it looks the same. Graffiti original or perfect--I guess you need to be a connoisseur on the subject to know for sure.

jeeff: 23rd Nov 2005 - 06:23 GMT

i'd say this case is more like comparing apples to wax apples. which one tastes better?

Peter: 23rd Nov 2005 - 14:27 GMT

"...The very idea of graffiti started with one person--all graffiti that has been done since has been copied from that person... I guess you need to be a connoisseur on the subject to know for sure..."

this made me lol.

Jamie: 23rd Nov 2005 - 14:58 GMT

i can't speak for anyone else here but i quite like the taste of wax

Jamie: 23rd Nov 2005 - 14:59 GMT

oh and i posted this into another thread but i'll stick it here too. Banksy unmasked? perhaps

www.afflictedyard.com/banksy.htm

Peter: huh! interesting...

Rob915: 23rd Nov 2005 - 20:24 GMT

Yes... this is a complete Banksy rip off. But none the less, the original stencil is brilliant and makes a strong point - so what if this guys done a crap version? Everyone gets their inspiration from somewhere. Even if this is a mindless copy, atleast the guys supporting banksy's work and ideas.

safe: 4th Dec 2005 - 18:46 GMT

yea ok, but common man banksy wanna b or what, be original pick up ya knife and let it flow, im 14 and make my own stencils and even i know that.

Seen this stuff all over town and only just realised who it was. The guy is a proper good artist and people are bound to copy him, and thats fine. But they will never be able to get ahead of him with quality like Banksy

banksey: he is brilliant

Cheese string.: 29th Mar 2006 - 15:16 GMT

Is it just me or is bansky just over rated. i mean any one can make stencils as "good" as he does.

Peter: 29th Mar 2006 - 15:20 GMT

why do so many people think banksy's name is "bansky"?

jeeff: 29th Mar 2006 - 19:33 GMT

peter - maybe they think he's polish.

cheese string - you're on crack. have you ever tried to make a stencil? if you have stencils that are as good as banksy, please post photos.

chiamattt: 29th Mar 2006 - 22:20 GMT

at this point i have read more than a few people say "be original"...ugh...comment originally for allah sake!

tania: 7th Apr 2006 - 09:48 GMT

ninety9lives: 25th Apr 2006 - 04:40 GMT

i like it purely because i love stencil work. but that is a banksy imitation, and a hella boring low qual one at that.

nowyoucee: yea i like it when he paints pigs blue

Hannah: 22nd May 2006 - 20:33 GMT

poor quality but give the artist a break
it was probably there first shot
youv all gotta start somewhere

this is a cool pic although i can't quite make it out i wanna start stencling to!

for sure: 29th May 2006 - 20:02 GMT

"Is it just me or is bansky just over rated. i mean any one can make stencils as "good" as he does."

It's not about the "good" stencils (if you think it is then you missed the point) Bansky is popular for his views and the unique way he illustrates them. It's his ideas that are "good".

Jon: 9th Jun 2006 - 03:51 GMT

It's a little girl hugging a missile. It's by Banksy.

Grazer: Meh,Cool Stencil

BOMB SQUAD-UK: ABIZMAL.... SAY NO MORE!!!!!

PowderPirate: 1st Jul 2006 - 23:08 GMT

No, no, no, that is not Banksy. I'll admit it is based off of one of his stencils. Unfortunately it's a horribly done stencil. Come on guys, if you're going to lay doen a stencil, do a good one, please. Here is the real Banksy one: http://www.banksy.co.uk/outdoors/03.html#

rhys: 31st Jul 2006 - 22:49 GMT

dude b original nd wa d hell iz it (looks lyk som twisted kid tryin to stuff her pants with a missile!)

rams: 9th Aug 2006 - 12:42 GMT

yeah it may be a banksy imitation but its the point that the image gets across that counts. im sure if banksy himself saw it hed probs be glad people are seeing hsi work and imitating it cus at least the message of it is getting around to different places. come on people who cares i mean yeah it ent a proper decent imitation btu its the entire message and point of it that counts not the quality at least hsi message gets around more

Yeahyeahyeah: 14th Sep 2006 - 01:11 GMT

Whatever. He tried. It sucked. Move on.

He sure as hell did.

The KraFive Crew: 9th Nov 2006 - 01:54 GMT

ok first of all, This puts a bad name to stencil art.
if you knew anything about graffiti, you would know
a) NEVER copy another artists work. let the origional artist take credit for his or her own work.
b) if your goign to go tagging or stenciling. make sure you know what the fuck your doign so you dont waist a premo spot, and make sure the stencil actually looks good befor you go about spraying it up. fucking toys.

kizzles: 14th Nov 2006 - 22:54 GMT

man i need some stencils ideas so i can go stenciling what should i do

sprwaka: 2nd Mar 2007 - 18:15 GMT

First start putting more detail in the stencils. Second, think of what you want to express. And if your ideas are similar to bansky's ideas then use his work to inspiration. But do not copy some body else work or try to make it look like someone else.

pianist: 19th Apr 2007 - 01:32 GMT

FOR GODS SAKE! Just to put things simply.....

1. YES, it is a Banksy Copy.
2. What does it matter to you, that who ever copied it, probably doesn't have any politcal view!?
3. Why is every1 so b*tchy on here?! I stumbled across this, when i was looking to have a nice conversation about street art with people around the world and this is what i find
4. let's see some of ur stencils on here if this one's so terrible, atleast who-ever copied this, has actually got some work up on here.
5. why are u still reading this/ pestering this un-inventive person, when u could be spending ur time making you own stencils, or be on the streets spraying them.
.....
and b4 any maons at me for being a hippocrit. its taken me almost an hour to actually write and poist this thing, as im cutting a stencil right now.

good luck all, keep up the good work of making ur mark on this world!..i mean with can in hand of course.

ben: 30th Jun 2007 - 04:55 GMT

OMFG get over it! he made a bad copy of bansky, hes probly just starting and culdent think of anything cus wen i first started it sure as hell was hard to make my stencils without copying anything giv this guy a break. all that matters is that the message gets acrosse. Do you think the everyday citizen knows thats a copy????

creative name here: 8th Jul 2007 - 15:29 GMT

what cracks me up about all of these threads is the amount of time people spend reading, responding, flamewars, etc. the kid obviously like Banksy, an new to the game... he's out there gaining more an more skills as he does it.. and every here is just waisting time talking !*$@. Get off yar arses and paint the city.

schneebly: 7th Oct 2007 - 20:52 GMT

right on jeeff! stencils aren't easy to make and ones that are as complex as banksy's, well, would take a lot of tie and effort. This stencil isn't great, but everyone has to start somewhere i suppose- experimentation is a good thing.

LONE 1:.: 30th Oct 2007 - 04:25 GMT

well i give this guy props for at least trying 2 make a stencil even though it is based on a nother artist that made it. i remember that i started like him copying other artist even though i nevr liked copying but they showed me how to get goin can any1 agree wit me???

anon (bas3-toronto63-1128671152.dsl.bell.ca): 30th Oct 2007 - 21:43 GMT

I Agree with you
But when I create my stencils I like to stand back&be happy with what I see instead of just seeing something else someone else did.

But its good to get going on that, good practice

cheers;
-Brittany

tron: 31st Oct 2007 - 21:18 GMT

stencil is really nice, really new, really real, really street, really down, really brave.
keep up the production of a popular flat out banal squized to the last drop culture. Make someone think, and do something else. "Look there`s a stencil!"

JOEY TPA - THE PUBLIC ANIMALS: 2nd Nov 2007 - 10:13 GMT

Worked very well for Banksy, but he took stenciling to another level. Remember, folks were stenciling hundreds of years before Banksy, me and any "graffiti" writer out there, so it has to be understood as a form and function. Some of the best in the world do it.

melza: 5th Mar 2008 - 03:20 GMT

I can’t believe so many people that are graffiti enthusiasts don’t know who the fuck banksy is? and you now get that this is a bad copy of a good original banksy. But even if the person is only starting out or whatever, I wouldn’t be posting things like this around thinking that it’s good art. Let your first few starters or drunken graphs go… trust me it’s for the best.

Hush.: That's a bite off of Banksys' work.

Beardo: 4th Sep 2008 - 04:49 GMT

44 year old loser.: 22nd Sep 2008 - 01:05 GMT

I've been making paintings for 20 years using some of the same images as Banksy uses...however, he is much more clever (and prolific and successful) than I will ever be...I'm glad he's gettin' the message out there, but my ego is shattered, and I feel like such a fuckin' idiot, I don't know what to do now! To Banksy fans it'll seem like I was trying to copy him, and I only just found out about him...I knew I shoulda never got a computer! If Banksy can surf, then I'm doomed!

jgnar: sick, btu what is it?

Art Student. : 28th Sep 2009 - 01:23 GMT

There is nothing wrong with recreating what a master like Banksy does. And I use the term master loosely. That is how an artist is born. They find a motif that they enjoy and like then they build off of it into their own complete style. They person who made that child hugging a bomb may still be new to stencil art and hasn't found their original work yet. Take a look at the followers of Caravaggio, the Caravaggisti, for an example of mimicking the style of works of a master.
