1957 Pontiac Star Chief 2-door

image 18747
I looked and looked, but could not find any others with the rubber nose cones. I can only assume they are either an option or an after-market mod.

image 18748
Quite the intricate work on the hood ornament.

image 18749
Chrome, chrome, glorious chrome.

I love these tail lights.

Nothing says 1957 more than tail fins.

Had one of these brand new a few years after I returned from the Korean War. I have had 7 or8 Pontiacs since then but this one was one of the best, if not the best. It was one of the fastest on the road in those days and with a set of dual exhaust and the proper mufflers it sounded just beautiful. K Arnold.

John: 11th Nov 2008 - 19:36 GMT

I had a 1957 when I was in high school. Best car I ever had and wish I had it today. Mine was a Star Chief with 3 two's and a was always a head turner. I had rubber nose cones (white) that were standard equipment on a 1957 Chevy. Pontiac did not offer them so I bought them from a Chevy dealer and drilled a hold in the concave chrome insert in the bumper and ended up with a nice look to the front end of the Pontiac. Incedently, my parents bought me the car in Charleroi, PA at Mccracken Pontiac, I couldn't afford the $3800 at the time.

My boyfriend had a '57 Pontiac Starchief way back than....(White with green rocket and green leather interior)I get all choked up whenever I see one! It was in mint condition until one night he was out with friends and ran it through an open field. Good grief...I married the guy! Someday I'll make him buy me another one....LOL

EvilGentleman: 27th Apr 2009 - 17:53 GMT

carmine: 2nd May 2009 - 20:06 GMT

Does any know where you can get a model replica of a 1957 pontiac starcheif convertible with a continental kit. I am the original owner of 1. My e-mail address is debraguiffre@aol.com Please reply. Thanks!

LBrotz: 16th Jul 2009 - 04:57 GMT

I had a 57 Chieftan in high school. 347 was dumped for a 421HO and a B&M HydroStick. Ran low 11's at Houston and San Antonio. Lots of memories. Traded it in 1966 for a Chevy ll, 283, 4 speed which I totaled two months later. Wish I had either on now.

I have a 57 Starchief with only 39000 miles and it needs a little tlc. I am looking for the rear bumper exhaust outlets, but like what you did with yours. Can you tell me where you got them? E-Mail. misiara@verizon.net
I bought the car for 2500.00 but already spent 10,000.00 on it

EvilGentleman: 26th Apr 2010 - 08:27 GMT

Ralph, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but these pictures are merely one set out of several I shot at the A&W in Chateauguay, Quebec one day in 2006. Vintage car buffs gather there every Tuesday during the warmer months to show off their babies. I have no clue who owns this vehicle, or if he even knows about this article.

Terry hill: 12th Aug 2010 - 04:03 GMT

In 1967 my dad, and I went to Trenton N.J. in search of a Pontiac Star Chief. We had exhausted an entire day, and closing time was almost upon us, when out of the blue; we spotted what appeared to be exactly what we were looking for. An elderly couple had brought a 1957 Pontiac Star Chief, two door hard top to the Trenton Salvage Yard to sell. We were luckly to spot this gem, I don't exactly how much my dad paid for the car, but he was ready to give his soul for this car. I believe it had no more than 5,000 original miles, the car was almost new, the smell was still there. We put approximately a quarter of a million miles on this car, and was sold to a mechanic friend of my dad who kept it for many, many years. I miss that car a lot.
