Classic Cars 4 - 1952 Nash

- EvilGentleman - Monday, March 5th, 2007 : goo

Took a lot of research to identify this one...

1952 Nash Ambassador Super four-door sedan

image 18728
The covered wheels and extended rear bumper are quite unique.

This is what had me confused for a while. As near as I can figure, this hood ornament is from a 1955 Nash.

image 18730
The front turn signals are also a unique identifying characteristic.

i believe that is a special made ornament. if i remember correctly it would have been considered pornographic to have an ornament like that then so i'm guessing it's homemade. yep, now i'm sure, they never would have made an ornament like that for a car then, besides your mom or wife would have killed you.

Actually, you might want to check this out. www.lepoix.de/index_hood.htm or www.lepoix.de/text/nash_hood_ornament3.htm

Jimmy Shine: Cool Lookin' Nash Dude!

ValleyCruiser: 12th Feb 2008 - 00:20 GMT

1952 Nash, interesting looking car., tough cars in their day.
I have a 1953 Kaiser Manhattan & a 1950 Studebaker Champion Starlite Coupe
I'd love to get my hand on a '50s Nash or Willys.
The independents of the '50s I think are more collectable the the mainsteam cars ie: GM,Ford,Chrysler.

Sid: I had a '52 Henry J. I love the hood ornament.

Beautiful car, I grew up around classic cars, the Nash was sure inovator in car styling back in the late '40s and early '50s, I'm in the process of getting myself a 1976 Ford Torino 2 door hardtop.

My nephews have an old beat up Nash (poor thing) that looks like a 55 that they plan to refinish "someday". Do you have a bulletin board?

1950s Packard.

ValleyCruiser: 11th Apr 2009 - 00:22 GMT

I myself am now the owner of a 1952 Nash Ambassador Super Airflyte, My '52 is fully optioned, windshield visor, drivers side spotlight, and rare export only rear window wiper, my car was exported to Europe for awhile back in the mid 1950s where rear window wipers were reguired, even on sedans, I also have a 1953 Kaiser Manhattan, 1951 Kaiser Henry J, 1950 Studebaker Champion Starlight Coupe, 1970 AMC Rebel "The Machine", I also plan on obtaining a 1953 Kaiser Dragon, and two Packards, a '53 & a '55 Caribbean convertibles.
I've been a collector of independent makes ie: Nash, Kaiser, Studebaker for many years.
Everyone drove a Ford, GM, or Chrysler at one time or other, but I love it when people, especially the younger generation come up to my wife & I at car shows & ask what kind of car is that & we tell them it's a Nash or a Kaiser or even a Henry J & they go "a What?", sorry I don't do the '95 Honda Civic Tuner scene.

ValleyCruiser: 11th Apr 2009 - 00:26 GMT

The 1940s hunk of Detroit iron appears to be around a 1947 or '48 Chevrolet Fastback. by the way it's an awsome lookin' car.

Ken: 11th Apr 2009 - 00:28 GMT

As for the '67 Mini Moke, my parents rented one of those on a trip to Barbados back in 1974.

Car Crazy: 15th Apr 2009 - 01:02 GMT

Looks like a 1952 Nash Ambassador Super Airflyte (Farina), as in PininFarina, the famous Italian car body designer, who designed the bodies for the 1952 Nash to give them a new look from the "upside down bathtub" look of the 1949 to 1951 Nash Ambassador Airflyte.
PininFarina was noted for designing bodies for more exotic cars like Ferrari and Alfa Romeo.

Car Crazy: 15th Apr 2009 - 01:05 GMT

I also like the pic of the Packard, it appears to be either a 1951 or a 1952.

Sean Hopkins: 15th Apr 2009 - 01:09 GMT

That is one beautiful car!! The hood ornament is a cream dream for sure

Car Crazy: 15th Apr 2009 - 01:09 GMT

in regards ot the hood ornament on the Nash, the '52 Nash Airflyte had an airplane styled hood ornament. but the hood ornament on this particular Nash looks good, maybe the owner thought a mermaid was sexier looking than an airplane.

Car Crazy: 15th Apr 2009 - 01:12 GMT

ValleyCruiser: Do you live anywhere in the Toronto area 'cause I'd love to see your collection, where I've always liked the look of the early '50s Nash.

worthog: 21st Oct 2009 - 22:48 GMT

I have one of those hood ornaments. I don't know what year of nash it's off of
