i think thats an urban legend... plus, the building has so many terraces and setbacks that it would be virtually impossible to pitch a penny off in such a way that it would actually reach the ground, as opposed to say landing on one of the set-backs or layered roofs of wider floors below...

(though i must admit to having tossed a penny off of there before. but shhhh, dont tell!)

ahh, i used to live in that part of town, right near the aircraft carrier- which is called "The intrepid", btw... you can see more about it here: www.intrepidmuseum.org - there are lots of nice airplanes on the carrier. its sort of an air/space museum. i went to a party there once, after hours, and we all danced amongst the airplanes on the flight deck.

Peter: 15th Jun 2005 - 14:13 GMT

...oh, and regarding haunted... i dunno about the intrepid (but its possible, as it returned to its current anchor point a victim of two wars and the associated death/gore), but many would say that "The Fryingpan", another old lighthouse boat permanently anchored nearby actually is haunted... it was ressurected from the depths and floats again! a zombie ship! www.fryingpan.com

Ow. My neck hurts from looking up at the Empire State photo! This is a really cool shot. Is it from a regular observation deck? (102nd floor?)

ian: It looks so futuristik Awe.
