More from the Near West Side. I was struck by the size and beauty of these very old houses.

these train tracks are out of place in this post, though they are not distant from the road pictured above.

the vines going up the column on the 5th one are pretty nice.

colavitos ghost: 20th Nov 2006 - 14:13 GMT

nice shot of the rapid tracks. i ride those things to work every day.

i especially like the way your shot captures the tracks' path through (at least) four dimensions of space-time.

Cogswell hall had the worst halloween candy. Each old lady would take Good'n'Plenty, candy corn, hard candy and pennies and dump them into your sac unwrapped and loose.

colavitos ghost: fuck getting pennies for halloween.

I love this, especially the last one and the second one (which looks like the street where I grew up). As for the old ladies, sounds like they were trying--I mean, if it were wrapped, that would sound pretty awesome to me.

This reminds me so much of the old residential sections of . Very beautiful!

Beautiful shots. This is a little west of Ohio City, but why kibbles about bits? Beautiful shots.

i was gonna say the same thing, carrie, but you're right...no point in being pedantic.

for the pedants: this neighborhood would be more accurately referred to as "detroit-shoreway".

wow, good recognition carrie! these are on west clinton near w. 65th. can anyone tell me if there is another name for this neighborhood? glad you liked 'em.

little ukraine: 27th Nov 2006 - 17:32 GMT

thanks cg - in the time it took me to get my response up, you answered my question.

colavitos ghost: 27th Nov 2006 - 17:37 GMT

for the TRUE pedants, these pictures were taken in the "Franklin-West Clinton Historic District" within the "Detroit-Shoreway Neighborhood" on Cleveland's "Near West Side".

colavitos ghost: 27th Nov 2006 - 17:44 GMT

whoa, just noticed that i posted that same response like infinity times. sorry!!!

Carrie Misak: 30th Nov 2006 - 10:03 GMT

West Clinton (between 65th and 74th) vs. Clinton (between 28th and 38th) which is the most desirable? Think about how these blocks have changed in the past ten years.

Could someone show me those bumperstickers in Vine Court between 28th and 32nd?

colavitos ghost: 1st Dec 2006 - 16:38 GMT

carrie: i'm intrigued by the specificity of your knowledge of the west side. i feel like i must know you! perhaps "carrie" is a pseudonym?

as to your question--and a good one it is--i'd have to say the 28th to 38th stretch is more desirable at this point. it's proximity to dave's, the market, great lakes, bridge/fulton, etc. give it the leg up in my eyes. however, if gordon square turns out to be as great as developers think it will, west clinton could rise to the top!

West Clinton : Clinton :: East St Louis : St Louis.

Beadle and Tatum: 1st Dec 2006 - 17:20 GMT

I think the thing about W. Clit, is that it never was as empty as Clit. Clit has had all these empty lots get condoed while people have always kept the houses on W Clit standing. W Clit has had a lot of restoration, but over the last 30 years Clinton has seen a much more dramatic swing.
