Brooklyn's Row Houses

i had relatives who lived in those house off the gowanus. we would spend much time on the rooftop. i have a photo of myself on one of those houses. i was a little kid with a big family and my uncle jimmy, (an avid boxing enthusiast) who boxed at one time would sit in his living room with all the lights out to watch a fight. it was better to watch tv with the lights out because the screen was small and the resolution poor at that time in history. so uncle jimmy would have beer for all the men in the family and i would sit next to jimmy with my father and other uncle on my left and jimmy asked me once if i would like to have a beer and my father answered before i could with a resounding NO and so i sat there, sad, thirsty, and in the darkness my uncle jimmy would take a slug of schaeffer, (because schaffer is the one beer to have when your having more than one) and then tap my leg and then i would lean over while still looking at the fight and grab the bottle and take a swig and replace it and tap my uncle's leg as a thank you. i thought all these years my dad didn't know, but he knew. he laughs about it know. everynow and then i call him on the phone and we chat.

i love to see the lady in the harbor and i'm not talking about my old girlfriend sophie who could down a beer faster than a jackrabbit could run.
