This building dates to the Civil War, does it not? Or is that the other Brooklyn Armory? Also, I believe this is the one you see from the LIRR train just before it plunges underground for the final stretch into Flatbush Ave Station. I've always wanted to get a close look at it; thanks for the pics.

It's now a home for adult men. Homeless, emotional, physically and mentally challenged adult men. I hear it's a dangerous place to be, some would prefer to just live on the streets.

I grew up around the corner from this armory, back in my time growing up it was used to store tanks, trucks and half-tracks. I saw and heard these vehicles as they labored very noisely up the steep hill of Bedford Ave. The tanks would leave track marks in the tar and every kid knew when this happened, it was usally early in the morning. Some of this rolling thunder was used in the Memorial Day Parades on Eastern Pkwy. In answer to the first question, I'm not sure, but, I don't think this armory goes back to the Civil War it doesn't look old enough, and the armory you see from the LIRR is on Atlantic and Bedford, this is the shelter you're referring to. The armory in the picture is on a square block of: Bedford, President, Union, and Rogers one block from Eastern Pkwy about a half mile away. Thanks for the memories & the great shots Peter.
