Montreal Scavenger Hunt
Browsing articles by CE - [previous] :: [next]Ok, here's the deal, I have a bunch of free time coming up and feel like I haven't explored the city enough since I got here. What I want to do is have Citynoise send me on a scavenger hunt of sorts. This is how it'll go: -Two suggestions for photos per person. I'm not sure as of yet how many suggestions I'm going to take but will not pick and choose. I'll cut it off when I feel there is enough. After that, I'll go out on a search and come back with my results! This article has been viewed 4489 times in the last 2 years Susannah: 5th Oct 2006 - 12:03 GMTActually I always thought the little kids skiing with their little crash helmets were really cute - yelling "Attends Moi! Attends Moi!!" - can you get any shots of ski slopes, night skiing, etc? Also there's some french fry dish they used to eat up there - wih cheese and peppers on it. Now listen the last time I was in Montreal was in 1992 so it might not be the big deal it used to be. Cameo: 5th Oct 2006 - 14:27 GMTHow about some pictures of OSM/MSO musicians as the race to their cars after concerts. Sirhcbre: 5th Oct 2006 - 14:45 GMTEG, you should know better than anyone that this is the kind of stuff I live for! This is my life. We should go for another cruise soon. Things have been so crazy lately I haven't had much time to do anything but I'm sure things are the same for you right now too. Now get some seriopus suggestions in people! EvilGentleman: 5th Oct 2006 - 15:21 GMTOk, it looks like someone is making false posts with my name now. I do not appreciate this one bit. Whoever is impersonating me, nice try. I know Sirhcbre IRL, so it will be hard for you to impersonate me for any length of time. The best you can hope for is to disrupt things for a day or so. By the way, I was dropping a friend off in NDG when you posted your impersonating comment. Sirhcbre, I think a cruise is definitely in order. I have seen a number of things that definitely need photographing, and I have just been too busy lately to do much photography. For your list: I definitely like the idea. This could work for many different cities. It's a really cool way to find out what people elesewhere are wanting to see. Definitely new and interesting concepts you are bringing here, keep up the good work. EvilGentleman: 5th Oct 2006 - 20:33 GMTI think you are referring to poutine, Susannah. French fries covered in gravy with curd cheese sprinkled on it. Even McDonald's serves it around here. Susannah: 5th Oct 2006 - 20:53 GMTYes Poutin I wasn't sure if it was Pootin or Pootie or what but I remember it was a pretty big deal way back when. I'm sure McDonalds doesn't do it justice. a disturbed young man: 5th Oct 2006 - 23:06 GMTi'd like to see some hookers holding photos of antelopes jeeff: 5th Oct 2006 - 23:17 GMTplease take a photo of a person scavenging, and an animal scavenging. EvilGentleman: 6th Oct 2006 - 01:42 GMTTo be a true scavenger hunt, shouldn't you have to hunt scavengers? Perhaps catch a raccoon and a homeless guy in giant butterfly nets? The suggestion of pictures of hookers holding photos of antelopes is absurd. A more sane request would be a picture of antelopes eating cantaloupes. Susannah: Poutine susannah: 6th Oct 2006 - 02:12 GMTOr Hooker's holding hockey sticks? Thanks for the Poutine link - it says that the word Poutine derives from the Provencal word Poutingo- that sounds an awful lot like another word but I won't go there.
zagg: 6th Oct 2006 - 02:39 GMT- someone wearing a costume of any variety. - something at least 150 years old. ksedge: 6th Oct 2006 - 04:15 GMThow about someone wearing a montreal canadian's jersey with matching hat. bonus points if they have one of those huge foam fingers! shouldn't be hard now that hockey season just started...
GGP: 6th Oct 2006 - 18:04 GMT- an interesting plant coming up from the pavement great idea, by the way. joey: 7th Oct 2006 - 02:42 GMThow about pictures of the water treatment plant. i hear it's a classic Sirhcbre: 7th Oct 2006 - 18:02 GMTOk, so far we have this on the list: -Poutine I'm not going to do the homeless person out of respect for homeless people nor am I doing the wild animal as the flash may make them aggressive. I have no idea where I'll find rubies and would probably be kicked out of a jewlery store so I can't do that. Hokers ain't happening either. Keep the items coming in! I'll take a few more. Sirhcbre: 10th Oct 2006 - 22:03 GMTThose are added. I've already started collecting pictures. I'll take a few more so keep adding to the list! Susannah: 11th Oct 2006 - 18:34 GMTA mounty! A mounty! - How could I forget a Mounty - do they have those in Montreal, or only in the British parts of Canada (please pardon my ignorance)? EvilGentleman: 11th Oct 2006 - 19:52 GMTLemme guess, you mean the red uniforms and the park ranger stetson hats? They only wear those in parades and in front of places like Parliament Hill and at the entrance of the Prime Minister's official residence, etc. The rest of the time, they wear blue with a red stripe down the leg. It's sort of the same difference as the formal Marine Corps uniform with the white hat and saber that you see in Memorial Day parades as compared to the camouflage fatigues they usually work in. But hey, trade you a mountie Or if you want to be more modern, we can trade a pic of an RCMP police cruiser for a picture of a cattle rancher's pickup truck. Susannah: 12th Oct 2006 - 01:02 GMTSorry Sir C. hope you don't mind the detour, we still want to see what you turn up! Micah: 12th Oct 2006 - 01:29 GMTMetro pictures! Stations, interesting posters, people waiting for the train, people reading interesting posters while waiting for the train... ooh and metro map- do they put big metro maps up for you to look at there? Sirhcbre: 12th Oct 2006 - 04:11 GMTOk, I'll try to add all these things. I'm not sure what the RCMP presense in MTL is like considering a lot of the province is patrolled by the SQ. Can you field this EG? Barry: I know just the water foutain! Micah: I'm going to make your suggestion into Interesting poster/ad at a Metro station and a Metro map. Is that ok? Paulm: 12th Oct 2006 - 13:39 GMTSirhcbre, I thought you were after a challenge(hunt), a hooker with an antelope pricture is the best challenge so far. Go for it ! EvilGentleman: 12th Oct 2006 - 15:49 GMTSusannah: I find it quite funny that both your cowboy and my mountie are British Sirhcbre: I will get around to it when I have both free time and no rain. I think the regional headquarters of the RCMP is at 4225 Dorchester in Westmount, near Greene Avenue. Outside of Westmount, Dorchester Boulevard is now known as Boulevard Rene-Levesque, except for an isolated portion in Montreal-Est. Paulm, I think it is pretty unrealistic to ask that. Hookers are not too likely to agree to be photographed under any circumstances, and the antelope picture is so weird, it will make them suspect that they are being used for a corporate advertising campaign, thus they will demand megabucks to pose with the pic.
Sirhcbre: 13th Oct 2006 - 01:45 GMTYeah, hookers with the antelope picture is totally not happening. EvilGentleman: 13th Oct 2006 - 23:02 GMTExtremely unlikely you can get them to wear a micro-mini, but if it should come to be, it would definitely be worth taking a picture. Micah: 14th Oct 2006 - 02:32 GMTSure it's okay with me; I'm glad you like the idea and that it gave you another one. Have fun! Tamara: 19th Oct 2006 - 04:45 GMT~ Someone eating a big montreal smoked meat sandwhich!!!!! I'll keep thinking about this, while I toss and turn tonight. EvilGentleman: 24th Oct 2006 - 19:39 GMTThere is an Orange Julep still open on Decarie next to Decarie Square (a shopping complex). Sirhcbre, that's pretty close to your place, so no need for me to involve myself further on that particular mission. By the way, if anyone was wondering why I have not been around much, it might have something to do with my internet service getting disconnected last week. I'm at class right now, but this going home to no internet really sucks. Chris Erb: 24th Oct 2006 - 22:31 GMThaha, I was a little freaked out when I saw an anonymous poster knowing where I lived. I actually looked it up today and recognized it as not being too far away. I'm going to end submissions for October 31 so anyone who hasn't suggested anything get them in. Also, if people have already suggested something, add some more. I'm going to give myself until the end of 2006 to try to get as many as I can (rather than strive to get every single one in a short amount of time). I already have some and am looking forward to getting some time to really search for the rest. Susannah: 25th Oct 2006 - 23:15 GMTOkay - you did say scavenger hunt, right? I wonder if its possible to gat anything relating to the 76 Montreal Olympics, old posters, graf, whatever. Please feel free to ignore this if its ridiculous. CE: 16th May 2007 - 21:47 GMTOk, so I've totally let this slide but I still think it would be a good thing to do. I've compiled all the suggestions and have set a deadline for when I'll have all (or all that I can find) of the pictures. I will follow this post up with a new post with the pictures on Sunday, July 8th or before. The list I have compiled from the suggestions is as follows: 1. Poutine?2. A yellow fire truck (must be a full-size ladder truck, not an auxiliary vehicle)?3. Either an STM Transit Cop or a meter maid (or meter man) writing a ticket?4. St.Monicas Elementary School The painting on the gym wall?5. Doug Harvey Arena?6. Someone wearing a costume of any variety.?7. Something at least 150 years old.?8. Someone wearing a montreal canadian's jersey with matching hat.?9. A graveyard?10. An interesting plant coming up from the pavement?11. The water treatment plant CE: 16th May 2007 - 21:51 GMTI'm not sure what happened to the list so here I'll repost it (hopefully) fixed. 1. Poutine
