Major Byrd Hi-Rise

- Brad - Thursday, September 28th, 2006 : goo

[previous] :: [next]

This is the Major Byrd Hi-Rise. It was a housing project until a few years ago when some of the bricks started to fall off. Apparently it is cheaper to tear it all down and build less low income housing units on the same site, than to repair it. One of the last tenants actually had to be forcefully removed by the SWAT team. In last couple of years, the police and fire departments have also used it for some training. I always wanted to sneak in and check it out, but it was fenced off and alarmed.

The first shot was taken in June, a few months before they started . I didn't get the idea to try to match up the shots until after I made a few trips up there. Demolition took place between mid-August and mid-September.

A Happy Coincidence

A webcam in Szentgotthárd, Hungary captured this curious bird looking into the camera. The webcam is set to shoot only one frame in every minute, so what are the chances?
