that first shot is really difficult to interpret without context. i'm guessing the pitch-black is sky: is that taken out of a top-floor window, with the roof extended out from the building?

I agree. Honestly, I can't remember. I agree that it would read better with some context. However, I just posted it because it is so odd. If I remember correctly, I took it from the outside.
