Viva Las Vegas, Part 2

Dusk in the desert. These types of hues totally go against my personal aesthetic [although it does remind me of when I was a desert dweller] but that's not what this site's about. This site's about displaying the spaces we inhabit or travel to. So here's the shot anyway.

I've already given my take on Vegas in the first part of this article - Viva Las Vegas, Part 1. All I can add is I regret that we didn't have time to find & photograph the seedy underbelly of Las Vegas, I know they had to've missed some areas when they were 'cleaning up'. Some dark trashy shots would've juxtaposed nicely against the fake glamour...Anyway these are from a trip in 2004.

The former longstanding home of the World Series of Poker. This place was actually interesting to walk into. The poker room was huge, had an old-school atmosphere, and numerous stone-faced hard-nosed old bastards ringing the tables...I felt calmer there than anywhere else in Vegas.

So our trip to Vegas was worth it if only because 1) If you're going to play Texas Hold 'Em live in a casino for the first time, it might as well be in Vegas, and I did...2) My girlfriend had never been there and I think her curiousity was sated. 3) It's interesting being inside a huge black modern pyramid and 4) It's definitely a change from Seattle, which, coincidentally, is the reason for this post.

aer; the jowly clown WARNING! is a nice shot. to me, the rest of the photos are boring. no offense. perhaps there should be a ban on citynoise.org for pictures of las vegas. las vegas is so manufactured it is boring before you even point and shoot.

susannah: 13th Sep 2006 - 14:25 GMT

Joey - I disagree - I've never been to Las Vegas, so I'm interested to see what its like. Although, I do think the creepy clown is by far the best photo.

EvilGentleman: 13th Sep 2006 - 15:40 GMT

I find that Las Vegas is visually exciting, but mentally and emotionally draining. There can be no doubt that the city catches the eye. Everything there was designed to do just that. Las Vegas is like silicone breasts: fake, trashy and trying so desperately to be attractive that it becomes unattractive, but you know you will look, even if only for a second.

If you're still nursing a hangover today, you were in the right spirits. Or ales. :) Here's a bit from the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Toronto (the previous Sunday, but I won't tell anyone if you don't). Cheers! torontocitylife.com
