Everything Looks Perfect from Far Away

I loved Macedonia, I loved Greece. Life is good when you don't have the responsibility of going to work each day. Finding vegetarian friendly food to eat in any restaurant we ate at was ten times easier than it is in North America. Jof, I think back now and why did I not take a picture of the marble curbs? Again, it is mildly insane that they have city street curbs made out of marble instead of cement. We searched high and low for Ikea, an amusing attempt to be able to say I've been to 3 different Ikeas in three different countries. No such luck, but I seem to be able to survive without having that under my belt. The Byzantine Museum was grand, better than seeing stuff in the Royal Ontario Museum simply on the principle that it is in its homeland and not thousands of miles away from where it belongs. What ends the night better than sipping beer, wearing feather boas, singing on the balcony to strangers below.

Did I ever tell you about that time in Greece, wearing feather boas, watching gay asian porn? No? well... uhh... never mind.

people seem to come down the waterfront to enjoy a few moments of peace, read on their lunch breaks, or maybe before work.

I regret now not jumping in. Oh woe.

Thank you sir for such a fantastic photo opportunity - you and your mismatched camouflage

I printed this photograph, and now everyone asks who she is. Its art, man.

aer suzuki: very cool. i wanna go.

aer suzuki: 11th Sep 2006 - 09:59 GMT

by the way, this series goes down really well while listening to the smith's "every day is like sunday" even though the photos hardly portray a dreary place...just in case anyone was wondering.

zagg: 11th Sep 2006 - 10:09 GMT

every day is like sunday, eh? maybe i'll have to listen to the song --- i need to re-download meat is murder too, i should have a small smiths downloading party. yes thats right, download.

jamie: who is she?

EvilGentleman: 11th Sep 2006 - 15:01 GMT

She appears to simply be a good-looking German, Austrian or Swiss (I think her book has a German title) woman that zagg spotted and took a picture of. Being female, she can get away with this a lot easier. zagg, I am soooo jealous, girl. By the way, you have nice taste.

zagg: 12th Sep 2006 - 21:12 GMT

Now EG, you assume she physically looks like the kind i'd generally go for.

Sirhcbre: 12th Sep 2006 - 23:50 GMT

This post has been making me want to listen to the Postal Service for days! I wish I had some speakers so I can get my record player working!

Peter: i like the iron & wine version better, myself...

zagg: 13th Sep 2006 - 00:46 GMT

it happend to be the iron and wine version, thank you :D

Peter: awesome!

zagg: 13th Sep 2006 - 01:36 GMT

Now don't get me wrong, I'm most familiar with the postal service version... but last.fm put the 'iron and wine' version on my lap and i enjoyed the differences.

Sirhcbre: 13th Sep 2006 - 03:18 GMT

Just downloaded the Iron and Wine version. I knew it from Garden State but I just thought it was an acoustic version by The Postal Service.

Who did the song first?

zagg: 13th Sep 2006 - 03:33 GMT

Sirhcbre: I didn't know the answer myself, so I researched it (took 2 minutes, go me)

The composers of the song 'such great heights' appear according to allmusic.com to be 'Ben Gibbard, Jimmy Tamborello' --- so the answer would be: Postal Service.

EvilGentleman: 13th Sep 2006 - 15:13 GMT

You're right, I do assume, please forgive me. But you did not say I was wrong... I know my wife would definitely like that one.

susannah: 13th Sep 2006 - 16:25 GMT

We need to hear from Evil's wife on that one, I suspect male fantasies...well, you know.

EvilGentleman: 13th Sep 2006 - 17:46 GMT

My life has become so good, that unfortunately, I have had to give up having fantasies, since they are constantly being exceeded by reality. Such are the prices we pay to be fortunate. I do not have any idea what I have done to be so lucky, but I am so glad I am. But if you are happier believing otherwise, that is fine by me. I shall continue being happy regardless. I shall see if she will be willing to comment here. She has not taken to citynoise as of yet. She seems to prefer the speed of contact and lack of permanence of chat.

susannah: 13th Sep 2006 - 21:51 GMT

I think I might have misunderstood the thread - sorry didn't mean to offend..I'm seriously sleep deprived.

Sirhcbre: I will attest to EvilGentleman's claims.

Sirhcbre: 14th Sep 2006 - 04:30 GMT

Not that I know from experience but... you know... fuck, nevermind.

EvilGentleman: 14th Sep 2006 - 13:25 GMT

Sirhcbre - LOL, I think you mean to say you heard my wife openly discussing certain things while we were cruising around.

susannah - please, do not worry. You did not offend. We have so many amazing and unusual things that have happened to us in our lives that we are permanently used to disbelief.

Susannah: Whatever floats your boat dude!

zagg: Now how exactly did EG's wife hijack this thread?

Susannah: 18th Sep 2006 - 14:55 GMT

Sir Evil derailed it with his version of "It's a Wonderful Life" - and of course I, being the ever wide-eyed housewife, took the bait and ran with it.

Susannah: 18th Sep 2006 - 18:07 GMT

By the way they are very nice pictures and I'm glad Frederick is back safe and sound.

EvilGentleman: 18th Sep 2006 - 22:08 GMT

I am innocent. Innocent, I tell you. Hence, my pseudonym.

zagg: 29th Sep 2006 - 09:42 GMT

I'll have to check it out at a later time, I'm back in Canada now- a little distanced.

The Party Is Over

After all those weeks the party is finally over in PA. Philly went for Obama 65-35 (go us!). Unfortunately Hillary had a stronghold on Pennsyltucky, and walked away with a ten percentage point victory. We look forward to seeing Obama...
