one more post for on labor day 2006.
the garfield monument at lake view cemetery. where president james a. garfield is buried. 20th u.s. president.
he was shot by an assassin and died in 1881. some say they have seen his ghost inside.
we arrived right a 4 p.m. just as the monument was being locked up for the night. sorry. no interior pictures.

The soot stains from the coal era sure add to the texture of the place. This is the sort of post I love to see.

the rest of the cemetery is quite lovely as well. buried here, along with garfield, are some of cleveland's most prominent figures. most notably, perhaps, is the towering obelisk at the gravesite of john d. rockefeller--one of the richest men in the history of the world. wish i had pictures to illustrate, but trust me, it's nice.

good god, amazing photos. right up my alley too, very cool.

Jon: 6th Sep 2006 - 22:17 GMT

People dont give cleveland enough respect in the region. home of rockfeller. Im sure no one from chicago to san francisco was ever that rich, unless one guy owns vegas.

Oengus: 12th Apr 2007 - 03:57 GMT

Lakeview is a very cool cemetery; in the spring it has an incredible display of daffodils.

joey: 23rd Mar 2008 - 20:22 GMT

it's only 35 degrees in cleveland today. there are no displays of daffodils to see just yet
