Banksy Rocks!
[previous] :: [next]I don't know if this article is legit as far as citynoise standards are concerned, but I know of no other way to make sure people see the information here. If Jamie (or anyone else) can be so fortunate as to get photos of this, I recommend the author name of this article be changed, to reflect due credit for their work. I was just going through the latest news on the CBC News website (www.cbc.ca/news/ I have to say, Banksy definitely takes the role of "guerrilla artist" to new heights. The man is incredible! The sheer balls of planting fake Paris Hilton CD's in UK record stores - brilliant! I knew this would be of special interest to many citynoise people, so I am posting this article. I am fully aware this article is probably not strong enough to stand on its own, so feel free to delete it, but maybe you could email it to Jamie, Elaine and any other UK citynoisers before you do? We definitely need pics of this on citynoise. P.S. - As for the rest of the news: USAF - Never mind all the fancy crap in your HUD's, learn to read some goddamn maps so you will stop bombing Canadian soldiers! They're fighting the Taliban and Al-Qaeda too, you idiots! Didn't you learn anything the last time you killed Canadians in Afghanistan? The USAF is almost as great a threat to NATO soldiers as Al-Qaeda now. That has to be fixed. Peace out. This article has been viewed 6628 times in the last 3 years EvilGentleman: 4th Sep 2006 - 21:26 GMTI just thought about it, and I just realized a way to improve citynoise. Once a month, add an article authored by "Editors" that can serve as the citynoise bulletin board. If the editors have any news they wish to pass on to the rest of us, it can go there. If any of us have suggestions for the editors, it can be added as comments. I know the Banksy link I just posted would fit well there. The format would be simple. For example, this month's version could be simply titled, "Noise for September 2006". Since it would be a regular article, it could be edited as needed to get rid of pointless bitching and flaming, etc. What do you think? aer suzuki: 5th Sep 2006 - 09:36 GMTi just gotta say, for the sake of general information, that cd planting is a relatively common prankster maneuver, it's been done before. but maybe that's common knowledge, i never know. having said that, yeah, banksy's brilliant. i liked the guy instantly after reading about his gallery hijinks. thanks for pointing out the article, it's hilarious. Jamie: 6th Sep 2006 - 21:02 GMTit's perfectly fine to use citynoise in this way in my opinion. I've posted several such articles in the past. Banksy does indeed rock. and just check out how much the CDs are selling for on ebay tinyurl.com/qhaw6 I doubt their are many, if any left in free circulation to be found/photographed but i did stumble on this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxUl9Mxbh1E Other than that, all I have to say is "America! Fuck yeah!"
EvilGentleman: 6th Sep 2006 - 22:32 GMTThe listing was removed. How much were they asking? The youtube link was quite interesting. Thanks, Jamie. Thanks also for the support. The America quote is cryptic, but is fine with me. Just in case my remarks about the USAF are misunderstood, I should point out I almost enlisted in the USAF at Plattsburg, NY back in 1987, but I was told that I could never become an officer since I was born outside the US, and thus could never fly USAF aircraft. Today, I see the world's greatest air force making blunders that just should not be happening in today's world of überefficient military hardware and superior training. I think a few incompetent idiots need to be court-martialed, so the rest of the USAF can get back to the serious business of eradicating al-qaeda. Sirhcbre - Thanks. aer suzuki - You're welcome. Jamie: 6th Sep 2006 - 22:54 GMTit was at about £820 which i think i'm right in saying roughly seven million canadian dollars (?) as for the "America, fuck yeah!" quote, the answer is here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6eOrVcUOBk EvilGentleman: 9th Sep 2006 - 23:32 GMTAHEM! I did not specify "London, UK in this article. Why is it now saying London, UK as the location? I originally wrote "England" and it was changed to "UK", but London? The Banksy CD's are all over England, and a bit of Scotland. Please change it back to either "UK" or "England" xxHUSHxx: 28th Dec 2006 - 16:31 GMTi think bansky is amazing and studying his work at school. it was amazing just some months ago on my 14 b-day i saw him in london at a theme park i knew it was him because theirs a picture of him on google and as me and my freinds walked past Banksy. was doing wat he does best beign guerrilla artist. prof: 11th Feb 2007 - 18:39 GMTMan I don't care how he does it, he's just a classy and smart street artist. Also he's probably the only guy who could get away with printing a book in mass circulation EvilGentleman: 13th Jun 2007 - 06:07 GMTAhem - Jamie, I'm still waiting for you to restore the original location on this article. I know you love London, but this article was specified as "England", due to the nature of the subject of this post. The only tolerable change is "UK". If you really must insist on force-feeding me a specific city, use Bristol. My step-daughter's grandmother lives there. But it was intended to have no city specified. Lee : 8th Aug 2007 - 06:52 GMTIf Banksy rocks o much why does he have "his people" send out cease & desist letters? Art terrorist with a lawyer! Read all about it here: http://www.complex.com/blogs/?p=3990 EvilGentleman: 8th Aug 2007 - 17:26 GMTAnd your point, Lee, is exactly what? Anonymity is part of his mystique. If you really want to dig, you can find out who he is, but I prefer to think of him as a mysterious person who can appear anywhere, at any time, and do anything unobserved. Kinda hard to do that if your face winds up on the cover of TIME or Newsweek. Let it be. Hell, even the Mafia, al-Qaeda and Metallica have lawyers. EvilGentleman: 8th Aug 2007 - 17:35 GMTAnd Editor.... I'm still waiting for the location of this post to be restored to either England, as originally posted, or UK. If I ever visit London, I will take pics and post them, of that you can be sure. But until then, stop tinkering with the location of my posts. This article referred to CD's placed in stores all over England, so that should be the location, should it not? If not, you can use Montreal, which is where I was when I wrote the article. Lee : 8th Aug 2007 - 20:14 GMTMy point is he breaks the law but then hides behind it to protect himself. That is funny and ironic. My point is he is such a rebel he has a PR and a legal team. Yeah a real rebel! Banksy was funny and original years ago. Now he is an industry and a brand. That's my point. I'm not having a go at you at all so don;t get defensive. I'm looking forward to the "where are they now?" article featuring him in 30 years time and he'll tell us how he blew it all on drink, drugs and loose women. EvilGentleman: 8th Aug 2007 - 22:40 GMTWell Lee, I suppose we all have our different perspectives. That is one of the things that makes life interesting. It would be so boring if we all thought the same. Mind you, that is what makes Banksy so interesting to me. He is an artist who thinks waaaaay oustide the box, and he seems to have a knack for breaking (or usually, bending) the law in such a way, that even the authorities themselves often cannot resist the impulse to smile and quietly say to themselves, "Good one, buddy!" The end result: He makes us think, he makes us smile. He adds to humanity's two greatest assets, intelligent thought and happiness. What he does aside from his art stunts, I could care less. Keep on surprising us, Banksy! I love it! armleglegarm: 9th Dec 2007 - 15:39 GMTevery second statement he makes is against capitalism and money, then i went to his exhibition in central london last year and he's selling postcards for £4... a postcard for £4 with an anti-commerce statement printed on it??? he also collaborated with Puma to make limited edition trainers and a series of t-shirts... Puma is a brand based multinational company that has a long history of using sweatshops. in all honesty he's not way out the box - making simple political statements and using a rat design stolen from a french street artist called le rat, that's not original. he's a very talented artist, but in light of this, do you see why i cant stand him? rosco out tha abilene tx: 14th Jan 2008 - 21:20 GMTi like his art its very moving he has meaning be hind it keep it up banksy Comment on this article..[previous] :: [next] |
