heh...good for you, most people claim "no pun intended"...close, it's a car dealership. some of the old car companies used to make airplanes, though, i think.

there's a documentary about darger called "in the realms of the unreal" if you're interested in learning more.

berkeley, ca has a bmw dealership located in an old steel plant/warehouse. it's the best selling bmw dealership in the area. but bmw corporate thinks bmw buyers want a luxury showroom so when the lease is up in a few years it may move away. c'est la vie.

ok this might be considered off-topic for citynoise but what the hell : i finally made it to the frye, pictured above, to see the henry darger exhibit and i strongly recommend it if you're in seattle or if the exhibit visits your city...

darger was a reclusive, odd guy who came out of a harsh childhood to create an epic, obsessive work of art which included a huge typewritten narrative, collages, clippings, drawings, and watercolor paintings which he worked on in isolation for decades. the work centers around a battle in an imaginary world the earth revolves around, like a moon, between pre-pubescent girls with male genitalia (it is thought by some that darger simply didn't know any better) and oppressive adults often pictured in professor's robes and old military uniforms...truly fascinating stuff.

he painted long murals on pieced-together paper, and he used both sides, so in the exhibit these pieces were placed between two vertical panes of glass set on stands which were arranged to form a sort of hallway you could walk through...very cool.
