The Submarine

This is a collage, the top half being two close-ups, and the bottom showing the entire structure. I believe it is a system of control for a that is no longer in use. I call this "The Submarine" because that is what we called this thing when I was a kid.

Back then a photo like this would have been impossible because this entire area was overgrown with a small forest. This is a small triangle of land defined by a fork in a river, and we called the area Honda Hills. The forest was criss-crossed with trails which we tore up on our little Honda minibikes. It was gasoline powered BMX, long before the bicycle BMX we know today.

This "submarine" was hidden in the center of the forest and when you came upon it the feeling was eerie, like a scene from a Vietnam war movie when scouts discover an enemy position. What a fun place for us kids!

Now it's all cleared, there are sports fields and bike paths, an in-line hockey rink, all that jazz. And this old "submarine" has been colorized and fenced off as modern art or something.
