Wal-mart is going to be the only thing that will re-vive sussex and will force other stores to step up their game- which is a good thing!

Wal-Mart will do nothing but destroy Sussex. I guarantee, downtown Sussex will look very different in five years and it won't be pretty.

I don't see how Sussex needs revival, for a small New Brunswick town, it's a pretty vibrant. Walk down Main and Broad, there is hardly an empty store front, most of what a person needs is available in Sussex. Wal-Mart is going to be nothing but bad news.

There's going to be a critical mass in Sussex on 27 October for anyone who's interested. A bunch of us are going to be driving down from Moncton (ironic, I know, but we're carpooling at least) for the event. Oops I meant Sackville. I have always confused the two towns. Must pay more attention! Reading this article I even thought the pictures were from a stationery store I was at in Sackville last winter. Guess not!

When I visited Sussex, probably twice this summer while on a Farm Apprenticeship, I couldn't help but notice the small-town quality there is here. The mural campaign should be good enough to revive Sussex. I've watched the film "Wal-Mart : The High Cost of Low Prices" and it's shown several cases of how Wal-Mart moves in and crushes small community's. It also shows how small community's have banded together to defeat the mighty giant.

I wouldnt mind being able to find somewhere to shop for once, besides going to moncton or Saint john, and the zellers mall is just horrible.

I have lived in sussex for 15 years. I finished high school in 1997. From 97 to the present time I had to travel out of town (moncton) to work. And now I work in sussex at the walmart. Having the little shops in sussex is nice but they do not compete with low prices, alot of the shops are over priced.the little shops have there devoted customers, that's the only business the shops get. times change whether your ready or not. even sussex has changed over the last 100 years. to ensure the survival of sussex it must progress. you have the right to spent your money anywhere you please, so why should'nt people have the same opportunity as the the people living in the city. one minute sussex wants to be the big town with all the opportunities, then the next minute they want to be the small town, it can't be both.

I travel from a small community north of Toronto to New Brunswick 2 times a year and on average i spend a month in your beautiful province and at about a week each time in Sussex. I was pretty shocked really at the prices of things in Sussex! I found that for the most part your local stores are way over priced and totally took advantage of the fact that there was absolutely no where else to go ! i went to the so called mom and pop operation, which i might add is the only stationary store listed on your towns web site, Sussex Stationers to send some faxes to work , you see i also run my business from wherever i am travelling, and i was furious whene the woman behind the counter rang in my purchase of 10 pages of faxes to T.O. at $24.00 and change ! What choice did i have she had already sent them ? i paid and vowed to find another place to do my business next time ! the shopping centre there is scary. the prices for clothes are marked up way to high for the quality offered . we also battled with walmart whene they moved to are small town and time will tell what it will do to our community , but i will say one thing our small mom and pop operations are and i believe always will be fair and welcoming to its consumers. that is more than i can say about the reception i received from the woman behind the counter aat Sussex Stationers, and that is the the edge they will have over walmart . i can only hope that places like Sussex Stationers will see that i would have been a repeat customer every time i came back if i was treated kindly and not ripped off at the register . having family in the sussex area ,which i truly think is one of the prettiest areas i visit, i hope that it does not change . If it does , it is not Walmarts fault! i place the blame squarley on the small town stores that do not live up to the small town image . Offer people a reason to return with a smile and a fair price!! and i will bet that they will!
