Our old cameras, as taken with my current camera.

Kodak DC280 2MP
$810 in 2000
Used as primary for both me and my wife from August 2000 to July 2003. Sent for repairs. Came back for duty as my wife's primary from May 2004 to May 2006. Now in use as my wife's backup.
Used for over 5300 pictures so far.

Fuji FinePix A330 3MP
Gift in 2004, price unknown.
Used as my primary from May 2004 to May 2006. Currently being used as my wife's primary.
Used for over 6700 pictures so far.

Mustek MDC 3500 3MP
$195 in 2003
Used as our primary from July 2003 to May 2004. Been sitting in the junk drawer ever since. Unmitigated piece of crap, with lousy colour and fuzzy focus. Awesome night-shot abilities though, since I can manually adjust the exposure time up to 8 seconds.
Used for less than 500 pictures, doubt it will ever reach 500.

Audiovox CDM-8910BM cameraphone, unknown but very low resolution, maybe 1MP.
$99 for two of these and two LG GPS phones, with 3-year Bell Mobility contract in 2005.
Used as emergency backups only since September 2005, never used for citynoise yet. Bell has configured these things so that the only way to download the pictures is to email them to yourself, for a fee, of course. Tried in vain and spent over $100 on accessories before I figured out they cannot connect directly to my computer. The shutter button goes off at random, even in locked mode. Waste of money, never trust Bell.
Used for a combined 1000 pictures so far, but 800 of them were unintentional pictures of the insides of our pockets.

image 14332
Sandwiched between the Kodak DC280 and the Audiovox cameraphone is my current primary camera, as taken with my old Fuji A330.

Fuji FinePix E510 5MP
$120 second-hand from a friend who found the interface too complex.
This has been my primary camera since May 2006. It is a pretty good camera, with a number of settings options, but I do not like the way the shooting mode selection wheel on top is easy to bump, causing many of my quick-draw photos to be taken in the wrong mode. I also find that although this camera is supposed to be 5MP, the pictures are not as sharp as the ones taken with my old A330, even if I resize the pictures to citynoise size.
Used for 1000 pictures so far, plus approximately 500 with the previous owner.

Canon EOS 350D, i still have my old sony cybershot dsc-p73 that served me well :)

chiamattt: 9th Aug 2006 - 13:27 GMT

Evil, if the A330 is better...well I know how it is. I have an HP digi that my mom got free with an HP printer and its better MP than my D1, but to be honest, I hate it. The way it feels in my hand is ubercrap. You got pretty in-depth with your camera thing. I feel as though you should have been the one to start this thread. From ksedges post I just thought I should be a bit more short. heh *best friendly biatch* (and I mean it in a *best friendly* kind of way)

I do tend to be a bit verbose, don't I? Mind you, I'm me, and no matter who posts, I'll still be myself. I'm glad ksedge thought to post this article, and I appreciate your compliments, chiamattt.

Chris Erb: 12th Aug 2006 - 00:13 GMT

benji you bastard! You have your dream camera in your hands!

I finally found my camera's user manual and found it has a bunch of features I didn't know it had. One of those features is the ability to turn off the flash, thus, I can now take a picture of my camera in a mirror.
image 14477

I always thought my camera was to blame for the shittiness of the photographs it produces. I am now learning that it may not have been the camera at all; just the fact that I have no idea how to use it!

zagg: 12th Aug 2006 - 00:15 GMT

I have the same camera as Benji --- just you can't really tell from my photo --- same casing and everything :D

Chris Erb: 12th Aug 2006 - 00:24 GMT

You're both bastards!

*Shakes fist at crappy Vivatar for not being a Cannon Digital Rebel*

zagg: 12th Aug 2006 - 00:28 GMT

I saved and spent all my monies, what can I say!?!

And as mentioned previously before --- before I bought this camera in feb, I'd been using the same canon a40 for 4 years ;/

Chris Erb: 12th Aug 2006 - 00:32 GMT

I've had my Vivatar for about 4 years. it cost about 300 dollars at Zellars. it's an ok camera but doesn't have much for features, has a crappy zoom, has a pitiful memory, and terrible delay (takes about 3 seconds to take a picture and then makes me wait about 10 seconds between photos). it also doesn't take nighttime shots at all.

It's definitely time for an upgrade but money is a very big issue right now.

zagg: 12th Aug 2006 - 00:40 GMT

I think I spent 499 for my Canon a40 back in 2002.

I understand your pain of your old camera --- I don't suffer from troubles anymore... but i do feel your pain--- sucka!

:)

benji: 13th Aug 2006 - 12:54 GMT

yeah bam, i wish i could say i saved for mine but i put it on credit (eeep... i better not lose my job...) but for anyone looking for a new cam, i'd definitly reccomend the eos, image quality is super rad, controls are intuitive and ergonomically convenient, and lots of lenses avail for canon :D :D

Tyfoid Kid: 13th Aug 2006 - 16:42 GMT

My tried and true Fuji S7000

image 14519

and the new guy, just bought it Friday. Still getting used to it (the flash is very HARSH) but having a camera I can put in my pocket that still shoots 6 Mp and is somewhat water resistant will be a nice thing to have.

Hawkeye: 28th Dec 2006 - 04:16 GMT

what is this? I'll show you mine if you show me yours

dude its not the camera but the artist behind it that counts

EvilGentleman: 11th Jun 2007 - 03:39 GMT

Hawkeye, your point has validity, but without this post, we would know so less about each other. For example, Catherine's fondness of "Hello, Kitty" (Oh, wait... Catherine = Cat... I get it now), Benji's full head of unruly hair, jeeff's bathroom mirror with the baby-blue frame, zagg's cute face, chiamatt's posture when ready to shoot and/or run in the same second, or the back of the Rand McNally road atlas that I used to block my monitor and all the associated scan line issues.

My new camera is the same as groovehouse's except mine's a 900. Good little camera. My old Vivatar as pictured above disappeared a couple weeks after I gave it to my ex girlfriend in a bar in .

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 12th Jun 2007 - 17:42 GMT

Not only do I love Hello Kitty, it's actually my camera case.

Chiamattt: 12th Jun 2007 - 21:58 GMT

Catherine, I found a Hello Kitty Mp3 player on the bus. Nyah!

EvilGentleman: 12th Jun 2007 - 22:22 GMT

Chiamattt, you actually found a Hello Kitty item in Seoul? Wow, what are the odds? That's about as rare as Barbie stuff in Los Angeles, or poutine in Montreal. Hehehehehehehe :P

Double NYAH!! (and an EvilGrin®)

BZZZP: i'm sad i missed this entire whippage
