Peter: nice. i love seeing art on steel pull-downs.

Chris: is that stencil? if so thats bangin son!

Peter: 2nd Apr 2003 - 17:56 GMT

looks like some cheesy LA-actor-fan-painting.. but still cool. public art!

t@gger: 2nd Apr 2003 - 19:33 GMT

the concept is cool, but the fact that they picked james cagney as the subject matter is seriously lame. in my hood, that sort of shit would get rolled over quicker than you could say 'gay'.

i hear you about the public art, though. i wish more people were getting up with that sort of quality, even if its fucking james cagney, if i do say so myself.

In Hollywood they have all these actors painted on the steel of the pull downs. There is a full street of these pull downs once the shops close for the night. I took this one because of the way he is looking at the person walking next to it.

Mad Jane: 3rd Apr 2003 - 03:10 GMT

I think this is a great picture. The pull-down is like a wrinkly metal street-screen. But it almost doesn't matter who is painted there- its more about that moment, that figure passing through the frame.

Peter: 3rd Apr 2003 - 04:23 GMT

good call... yep, that is neat how he seems to be looking at the passerby.

Responsible Persons

'to all responsible persons...' sounds like the opening of a bill burroughs epic to me. presumably the original intention was not that, but whatever it was is lost. this building is now one of the many local prayer-meets for the local...
