The Accordion Lady

- ksedge - Friday, July 14th, 2006 : goo

one of my favorite photos, it was taken last october ('05) when i was in brisbane. this lady was sitting in the park in front of city hall, semi-tucked away, playing her accordion for nothing more than her own enjoyment. some people stopped to talk and take a photo with her. i prefered to just sit and watch her enjoy her music.

my pleasure. i only wish the shot could have been framed better but no matter where i stood i couldn't get it lined up right. however, i still think it's great.

i like the woman very much. i think in this case your difficulty in framing comes from shooting too wide. if you have a high resolution pic, try cropping it down. in photoshop you can specify fixed cropping dimensions, so you get a highlighted box that you can drag around to experiment with framing. and when shooting, it's a lot easier to reduce a scene to its elemental geometry when you're close to your subject. unfortunately.

thanks for the tip jeeff. i've never really tried cropping photos (although i do have the software), not that i'm totally against it, i've just never thought it was right. it's not real or pure anymore. however, i guess all art needs it's work to make it great right?

thanks again.

It rained yesterday and I decided to try and shoot the drop. This is the result.
