Home Pt. 5: Downtown (Broad Street)

Most small towns only have one street that makes up downtown. Sussex, for some reason, is an exception. As you go across the tracks that were seen in the last article, Main Street forks. One direction is Main Street which you must go up as it turns into a one way street and Broad Street which travels the opposing direction. Broad street is where downtown Sussex continues.

This is the beginning of Broad Sreeet. The green building contains two staple business in Sussex; Sharp's Drugs which has been around for about 100 years and Starlite Video which has been around since the dawn of the video cassette (it's also the only video plae in Sussex with the "little back room").

As we move a bit further down the street, we see a Bank of Montreal, Pearson's travel and Pearson's Insurance, The famous Moffet's Hardware where absolutely ANYTHING can be purchased (and is then wrapped in paper and tied up with twine), then the Cream Puff Bakery, which of course has good cream Puffs, then a jewelry store and a plumming shop. There is more to this street but unfortunately, for some reason I didn't take any pictures.

The old train station. It now serves as an ice cream shop and a tourist information centre.

As you get around the corner of Broad Street which takes you back to Main Street, you can't help but notice Hotel Sussex. This was apparently the best hotel in Sussex inwhich to stay. It is now an apartment building and isn't known as being the best place to in which to live. These sentiments were strengthened when I took the picture and somebody popped his head out the window and yelled "don't take a picture, it's falling down, it won't last!"

This was in the parking lot of the car dealership turned church I mentioned in the third article. I don't even know where to begin with this.
