Mystery Apartment

I've finally found an apartment to move into in Montreal for the Fall. The problem is, other than a street number and a general area that I've based off proximity to a metro stop, I don't really know where it is or anything about it. Here is what I found on Google Earth:

So this is the general area. it doesn't look as dense as the areas of Montreal I've been too but I'm at least a minute walk from a metro stop and it's quite cheap.

It appears that this post has caused Montreal to beat out Houston in the top 5.

Sorry Houston.

Dear Houston: thats right - the Canadian cities are taking over.

When I am unable to drive my wife to work, she changes buses at metro.

Chris Erb: 10th Jul 2006 - 16:39 GMT

Apparently my apartment is a one minute walk from that metro stop. Do you know anything about the neighbourhood around it?

EvilGentleman: 10th Jul 2006 - 19:52 GMT

That area is pretty diverse and while not entirely crime-free, it does not have a bad name by any stretch of the imagination. All in all, a pretty safe area, I would say. Vanier college is located nearby, and there is some good shopping fairly close to the metro, especially if you like ethnic foods. But in the end, it all depends on what your building is like. A bad building in a good area is still bad. I hope you have chosen a good place.

Chris Erb: 10th Jul 2006 - 21:02 GMT

I'm glad to hear that it's a decent place. It's hard to tell from Google Earth and I've been having a hard time finding anything about the area on the internet (except that the street I'm living on is home to Canada's first strip mall).

I'm hoping the place I've moved into is good, it's really quite a gamble for me. The landlord seems nice. I'll eventually be moving to the but I'm not sure how long from now that will be.
