Angelsha: 7th Jul 2006 - 20:04 GMT

I've been to many deaf schools for games in High School. But I've never seen one to look so scary and proson like....

grange: 11th Jul 2006 - 13:56 GMT

we have free roming deaf people here. But we make our blind people golf only at night.

Happy Grammie: 12th Jul 2006 - 19:20 GMT

We must be behind times in Canada. Our deaf people go to schools that don't have barbed wire fences. The deaf school near me in Milton, Ontario, has acres and acres of land around the school and no fences at at all.

Peter: 12th Jul 2006 - 19:53 GMT

...thats because your schools arent in the middle of ! trust me, sometimes i wish that i was surrounded by acres of open land here, without any fences.

Susannah : 15th Jul 2006 - 23:50 GMT

I really like your urban photographs - I just wish you didn't pick on people with mullets, seems kind of hypocritical - you know?

Grange: 28th Jul 2006 - 12:57 GMT

at least he didnt pick on deaf people with mullets , that would be cruel.

peacefrog: 26th Aug 2006 - 22:04 GMT

Peter: oh yeah, cause brooklyn's such a horrible place! Especially for the deaf!

observer...: dang! brooklyn looks hard...

Miriam: 8th Nov 2007 - 01:10 GMT

I'm a teacher in a Brooklyn public school. I know a little sign language. I would love to visit this school. Many students here want to learn sign language and meet deaf students.

miller: 28th Dec 2007 - 04:54 GMT

Lauran Flagiello: 16th Jan 2008 - 07:26 GMT

...alot of changes. I visited NYC 2 months ago. OMG-I was in shock to see how much change in this area. I was actually overwhelmed by seesighting many places that I used to go. It is been over 25 years. I would love to visit this school someday soon. I graduated from there in 1985. Shoot me at veesg@msn.com or add the members in my "group".

Brianna: 19th Jan 2008 - 00:06 GMT

i think it is good that there is a private school for the deaf but i mean i think it should be n a better area

Brianna: 19th Jan 2008 - 00:06 GMT

i think it is good that there is a private school for the deaf but i mean i think it should be n a better area

Edward: 27th Jan 2008 - 18:46 GMT

Better area? There should be a picture of the other side of the building or even across the street (http://brownstoner.com/brownstoner/archives/Eastern%20Parkway.jpg)
This school is near the Brooklyn Museum and the Brooklyn Botanical Garden.

The barbed wire is to probably there to keep the expensive equipment in.

David: 11th Feb 2008 - 04:07 GMT

The photo shows an entrance to a secured parking area in back of the school. The school is a very large, lovely well-maintained school.
The photo in the comment above shows Eastern Parkway in front of the school One block away is the wonderful Brooklyn Museum, 2 blocks away is the Brooklyn Library, and also the Brooklyn Botanical Garden. The school is 3 blocks from Grand Army Plaza, and near Park Slope.

the giannas: 7th Mar 2008 - 13:17 GMT

this school needs a new pictures its really scaring us.. we would never feel safe being here with that picture.

i have one question.... for the people who go to this school do you feel like your happy here? and do you feel its a nice school?

tom: 7th Mar 2008 - 13:19 GMT

yeah it a nice school.... but the picture is all rong man. its really a nice looking school dont worry... its just a really bad picture.

Peter: 7th Mar 2008 - 15:08 GMT

its not a bad picture at all, if you consider that i wasnt trying to photograph it for PR purposes or to pimp the school online. i was just out walking around, snapping shots of things in my neighborhood. and despite it being a "nice school", or you being partial to it, the photo above does give a pretty accurate glimpse of what it really looks like at the moment... and accurate/real is honest, yes? or should i only post "pretty" photos of things?

and furthermore, does the fact that it doesnt look photogenic really reflect on whether or not its actually a good school? people are just too obsessed with public image nowadays...

I'm sorry first impressions are important. I happen to know the area so I know this has to be the side of the school that's in the back or side, etc. The school is in a safe area. I just think whoever took the picture should have taken the front because for someone who was thinking about choosing the school it may have changed their mind.

Peter: 8th Aug 2008 - 16:38 GMT

good thing for us that this isnt a "school-choosing" website, huh?

nk: 3rd Sep 2008 - 21:53 GMT

This picture is not a picture of the school - and it's sad that you would want to give the impression that the school actually looks like this. This is the back of the school where teachers park - it's not even the main entrance or the playground area. Why not put a picture of the inside or main entrance so that people aren't deceived into thinking the school looks like a prison!! It's actually a big beautiful school inside. To the person who photographed this... have you ever actually been inside or met the students?? I think it's terrible that you even caption it as "St.Francis de Sales School for the Deaf" as if this is really "the school." That's like photographing the back of your house where you keep the trash cans and then posting that online to tell everyone that that is a picture of your house. It's deceiving!!

nk: 3rd Sep 2008 - 22:02 GMT

You may not have intended for this to be a "school-choosing" site, but don't sit there and pretend that coming across a picture like this would not influence your decision in choosing a school for your child. You know that parents and others will see this picture and it may have a negative impact on the school even though you try to act like the picture is "neutral." It seems a little hypocritical that you would say that it's a glimpse of the school as it really is and that your picture is "accurate" and "honest" Well it's not honest because it is not the school as it "really is."

Peter: 5th Sep 2008 - 13:18 GMT

your comment speaks of entitlement, nk. i guess thats where you have to use your own judgment and not assume every tidbit of information you come across online will be tailor-made for your specific needs or according to your opinions. thats the way the world is.

what is pictured is accurately described. im sorry you dont like the photo, though. do feel free to take one yourself and post it here...
