that town hall looks an awful lot like a 19th century workhouse

Chris Erb: It looks like a school to me.

Susannah : 16th Jul 2006 - 08:35 GMT

Is that wood shaker siding on the right wall (bathroom)?

Susannah : 16th Jul 2006 - 08:37 GMT

The social club looks like it was built from spare parts.Interesting take on recycling.

Susannah : 16th Jul 2006 - 08:39 GMT

I kind of like the red white and blue banners, it looks like they're left over from a party a few years back when they painted the window frames to match.

Susannah : 16th Jul 2006 - 08:42 GMT

Kind of like when I was single, and I wouldn't throw out my Christmas tree till March!

groovehouse: That dollar sign cracks me up!

iman: 15th Apr 2007 - 13:18 GMT

it looks like one of those towns you see on old western movies, but the towns on those movies have more peoplle in it.

John : 15th Jun 2007 - 03:45 GMT

Red, white, and blue banners no doubt left over from the the parade they threw the brave lads going off to fight the civil war.

NATE: 19th Jul 2007 - 18:24 GMT

might be a boring sign but that dollar sign is awesome!

Kim: 1st Aug 2007 - 00:32 GMT

Your wrong there are two churches and you have never been to one of our family fish frys in the park!!!!! But, for the most part you are probably right it is pretty boring.

Kim: 1st Aug 2007 - 00:34 GMT

Oh and that church you have a picture of is Lutheran.

Kim: And the other church is Presbyterian.

Bob: 9th Jan 2008 - 01:16 GMT

And that's def. not the town hall, its an old school

BELROC IOF: They get freight trains here?

Bob: 10th Jan 2008 - 04:08 GMT

Used to. Rail Road moved.

more people get a big laugh out of the pee-trough in the bathroom rather than the dollar sign (left)

petey b: the livestock auction is exciting

"Town Hall" was a Luthern School that was run by the Luthern Church (Shown as Baptist). I used to play on the Basketball Court that is between these buildings when I was a kid.

Duncan: 23rd Nov 2011 - 14:27 GMT

My mother was born and raised in Sylvan Grove. Her father was the pastor of Bethlehem Lutheran Church for many years. At the time he was pastor, it was the largest Lutheran church in the state of Kansas. Mom went to school at the Lutheran school as well.

Lisa: 29th Jun 2012 - 16:02 GMT

My husband was originally from Sylvan Grove. I have been for a visit. It may be small and in YOUR words "boring" but it will always be home to him. Just because there isn't a hopping night club doesn't make it a bad place. It's small town America. Reality is, these towns are out there. There is history here. You just have to want to find it.

Mark: 10th Nov 2012 - 23:13 GMT

There is also a Presbyterian Church in Sylvan. Didn't look around much, did you?

Fritz b: 13th Mar 2013 - 19:52 GMT

I live here and we have 2 churches the one pictured is Lutheran. The "town hall" is the old Lutheran school and the sylvan dollar social club is named the ranch house we also have the sylvan sales commission (sale barn)!
