Forget Raccoons...Groundhogs!

Despite living right downtown in , I am lucky enough to have a large, verdant back yard. We not only have , but a plethora of birds, cats, and sqirrels that gather at (and beneath)the feeder, and scurry away when I come out to go to work in the morning. Just recently we spotted a new inhabitant of our little nature scene - a cute, plump groundhog. He (she?) lives in the otherwise uninhabited stable house on the left.
And by the way (for all the raccoon fans in Raccoons, Cute or Dangerous), my hood is overrun with them. All you have to do is constrain your garbage cans so they can't tip over, and they will never get emptied on your lawn. There were some real horror stories in that article; I've lived all over this city and in my experience the raccoons seem to be alot like the people in Toronto; some friendly, some scary, most indifferent, but overall minding their own business. Sure this results in the odd annoyance, but we are all cells in the city organism...you have to expect we will bump into each other once in a while...

Nice outlook, about the cells in the city organism.

My parent's house back when we lived in Cornwall, ON was insured against squirrels.

in brooklyn we have a variety of rats and roaches for backyard animals not to mention some people roaming the streets at night.

Cougar down the street for me ,I hope he takes out some of those yappy rat dogs in the neigbourhood

I live in Burlington, ON, and feed the birds all year long, have five birdbaths for them also. We also have raccoons and skunks roaming around at night, but what I love to do is look out my window and see the baby bunnies standing up on their hind legs eating the raspberries off my bushes. Go to it, babies!

Coon Captive: 31st May 2008 - 10:34 GMT

We have racoons in our attic that are doing insane amounts of damage, and they have avoided live traps for weeks now by destroying and bypassing any blocks I put up. They are like cats and defecate and unrinate in the same spot in our attic over our bedroom, to close to the edge of the roof for a human to get at. All these touchy feely animal rights granolas can kiss my ass, or come and pay the couple of thousand dollars it will cost to get the racoon out and then fix the damage. Any of you animal lovers want to dig into your pocket and help out......oh yeah, and I keep my garbage cans in the garage with the lids on, so I didn't invite them either.
