Sea ice, wind and tides worked together to sculpt this natural ice formation that looks like a goose taking off. Taken July 15, 2005 in Kangirsujuaq.

This may be a stupid question, but where is Kangirsujuaq anyway? I don't know what the "QC" stands for...amazing shots though.

Laura : Its in Quebec

EvilGentleman: 2nd Jun 2006 - 07:59 GMT

aer suzuki, as Laura mentioned, the Inuit village of Kangirsujuaq (population - 550) is in the Canadian province of Quebec, along the Hudson Strait at the northern end of the province. If you check the comments here, you will find some maps that jeeff added to my first article about Kangirsujuaq that are quite helpful.

Editors, I just noticed I screwed up in both this article and in the Kangirsujuaq II article posted the same day by noting the province as QC, when all my other articles from Kangirsujuaq list the province as Quebec. This makes it harder to link the articles together. Any chance you guys could help out by changing the province to Quebec, so they match the others?

i like how the abstract forms have gathered to take a look. i wouldn't mind being a fly on the wall for their conversation...

I love that thing! I've come back several times to enjoy it again...I think partly the idea that everything around it as melted, so you could stand there and contemplate the wonder of ice in relative comfort.

ggp: the loch ness of the north!

i would like to know more about this ice technology in sculpture

Peter: 20th Jun 2006 - 17:29 GMT

"ice technology"? heh. i think its called .

EvilGentleman: 20th Jun 2006 - 17:42 GMT

Envision the "spine" of the goose lying flat in the ocean. This is the position the ice was in when the waves were sculpting it. This particular piece just happened to get trapped by the tide (for a few days, in fact) at a point when it looked quite interesting, and when the tide went out, the heavier end settled lower, and voila! One goose in flight!

Bushwick: Wild Dogs Gone Soft

Bushwick's just ain't what it used to be. I hear from many old timers that packs of wild dogs would wander the empty streets and take up homes in the hollow houses. I thought they were no more. But I found...
