This was shot in an expressway in Seattle, Washington, at night with a little [mostly] point and shoot digital camera [Nikon 3100]. The area can be accessed downtown by hopping over one of those wooden 'arms' that usually gate a parking garage, as the expressway is closed at night. The first 50 yards or so are lined with tile and looks like a subway tunnel, as you continue along, the 'tunnel' feeling stays although it's not always a true tunnel. It still feels as if you're underground. This stairway led up to a mysterious windowed room, by creeping along a concrete ledge you could glimpse through the dirty window and see metal grating and a tumult of water inside, as if it were a square concrete washing machine. Even with the sounds of I-5 in the mix, the whole place felt otherworldly, hence the title. *This is my first post here, be patient if I screwed up... It's nice to see new people here. I've only been using the site for about a month and a half and love it. I'm sure you will too. jeeff: 31st May 2006 - 06:12 GMTreally nice lighting. i've tried to take photos down some similar tunnels and found it pretty difficult to capture the mood. Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 31st May 2006 - 13:37 GMTGreat shot! I think I see a vampire inthe shadows. Peter: 31st May 2006 - 14:10 GMTawesome photo. i love how the shadow fades from light to dark. these are some of my favorite sorts of entries too- a good photo and a little bit of explanation to flesh it out... anyway, welcome to citynoise! id love to see more of your photos...
aer suzuki: 1st Jun 2006 - 07:55 GMTChris : Yes, I did, not many of them came out well though, but a few did. I may post them at some point... Peter : I don't know if it would be considered spamming to post a link to my photoblog, so not gonna do it, but it's easy to find using conventional internet methods... Thanks to all of you for commenting, it's cool to see the responses, I really appreciate it. Peter: 1st Jun 2006 - 13:51 GMTaer: you can add links, no problemo... check www.citynoise.org/about.php#faq11 Comment on this article..[previous] :: [next] |
