Changing Desert
[previous] :: [next]
the city from the hills. all exclusive mini-mansions are being built from mountain range to mountain range with vegas in the valley. where i am standing for this shot at one time was desert and tumbleweed.
i finally reached the end of civilization. streched out before me, THE DESERT. i stepped out onto the sand and tumbleweed where once cowboys rode with their cattle. i stepped out into the desert where indians rode (native americans) with their bows and arrows. i stepped out into the past to view a time and land dissapearing from us and changing into a new dimension of life. if only the cowboys and indians could come back to life and see the desert in las vegas, navada, i believe they would'nt fight. they would stand in amazement and ponder the sight before them. and then go to the casino. But I am pretty sure the cowboys and Indians would fight over who gets to own the casinos. From the vantage point of Las Vegas, the desert is definitely disappearing fast. But if you want to see real desert, just go 100 miles in any direction from Las Vegas, and it is all still there. I remember taking pictures of dust devils between Kingman, Arizona and the Hoover Dam. Looked like 60-foot tornados coming out of a blue sky, they did. I wish I had pictures of the 1989 Las Vegas to share with you, but unfortunately, I did not store some rolls of film properly during the trip, so Las Vegas, Tijuana and San Francisco got baked. Too bad there was no digital in those days. joey: 27th May 2006 - 18:38 GMT
