Creepy Baby

is it just me or is there something creepy about this? i realise that it is not exactly like the pointy teethed robotic dollies from barbarella, but it still gives me the shivers. i think it is because it is quite lifelike. freud defined the uncanny as being that which is alive but shouldn't be or that which is not alive but should be.
nasty baby, creepy baby, watching me on the canalside. brrr!

oh, dear Lord! there is this story about an old women, sad, lonely and distant from the world. she lingered untill her death in a house near a canal. a brick house that had vines growing up it's side.she sat near her window looking out onto a world that was quickly slipping her by. she kept thinking about her youth and faded beauty. she always prayed that she could come back as a child and continue her life in her room. day after day she visualized her wish until they found her, dead by the window just gazing out. many people have sighted a little baby, gazing out the window with dark eyes, in a position of trying to get past the window. it has unnerved even the bobbies on patrol. she lingers there, in the window, looking at a world passing her by.

elaine: that is utterly horrible, jack!

jeeff: 22nd May 2006 - 23:42 GMT

creepy, but not as creepy as this:

elaine: ok, that is worse.

jack: oy vey! and i'm not even jewish.

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 24th May 2006 - 13:36 GMT

There must be a way to add audio to this site so you could hear me scream.

elaine: 24th May 2006 - 19:46 GMT

i can imagine you screaming.
the scream i am giving you is a horror movie scream. was it lene lovich that used to be a professional screamer or that other one?

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 24th May 2006 - 22:15 GMT

You bet it sounded like horror movie, I've watched enough of them. I have also been working on a scream like Homer Simpson, when he has nightmares. AAAAGGGGHHHH! Vipers!

All I remember about Lene was her "New Toy" song, and that it was produced by Thomas Dolby.

elaine: 25th May 2006 - 07:32 GMT

it might have been nina hagen www.comnet.ca/~rina/nina.html
or it might have been lene lovich www.comnet.ca/~rina/nina.html or it might just have been something made up about one of them - i can't find any references to screaming for films in either of these biogs. doesn't mean that neither of them did scream for a living, but i like the idea of that as a job. i've always been fond of foley artists en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foley_artist and odd ball bits and bobs. my uncle was a hand model for a while. i mean! a hand model!
meanwhile back in springfield, i am mainly homer, too. one of my 'computer suppliers' stroked my keyboard fondly and said in perfect homerese "sto-lin". it was a joy to the ear.

an_impossible_child: 29th May 2006 - 11:00 GMT

the first thing i thought was phew at least you cant see michael jackson :P

EvilGentleman: 29th May 2006 - 13:48 GMT

OK, after that last comment... Now I'm creeped out! (Shudders, thinking of Michael Jackson)

elaine: i don't readily say this, but ew!

Lawrence: arrrgh!!!

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 7th Jun 2006 - 19:43 GMT

I think I'll have another scream as well:
AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHH.

Hazzle: 20th Dec 2006 - 18:21 GMT

I feel a song coming on...

O Fortuna
velut luna
statu variabilis,
semper crescis
aut decrescis;
vita detestabilis
nunc obdurat
et tunc curat
ludo mentis aciem,
egestatem,
potestatem
dissolvit ut glaciem.
Sors immanis
et inanis,
rota tu volubilis,
status malus,
vana salus
semper dissolubilis,
obumbrata
et velata
michi quoque niteris;
nunc per ludum
dorsum nudum
fero tui sceleris.
Sors salutis
et virtutis
michi nunc contraria,
est affectus
et defectus
semper in angaria.
Hac in hora
sine mora
corde pulsum tangite
quod per sortem
sternit fortem,
mecum omnes plangite!

Peter: 26th Feb 2009 - 05:57 GMT

And that's what's known in the business as good old-fashioned nightmare fuel.

Mime: 27th Feb 2009 - 04:19 GMT

There is a version of a song called "Stagger Lee" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Towards the end, Blixa Bargeld screams his lungs out. The whole song is disturbing but that scream he lets out is just chilling...

Peter: 27th Feb 2009 - 04:40 GMT

is it like the scream in ?

funny youd mention blixa, though, as my typical nightmare soundtrack is quite neubauten-esque.

Franny Wentzel: 27th Feb 2009 - 04:53 GMT

I like the B-52's Kate Pierson's screams in Rock Lobster
