New CITYNOISE Logo?
[previous] :: [next]Hey! Citynoise got a new logo!? Cool! Does it need a light outline or a dropshadow? I think it gets a little lost in front of the building... Regardless, change is good!! This article has been viewed 1999 times in the last 2 years Chris Erb: 10th May 2006 - 18:17 GMTI was just wondering if anyone made a post about this. Your timing is impeccable. jeeff: 10th May 2006 - 18:26 GMTi was trying to convey a bit of the hectic chaos of the city (by smushing the letters together too). i'll try tinkering with it a bit and maybe post the results here or on www.livejournal.com/community/citynoise_org Chris Erb: 10th May 2006 - 18:29 GMTI really like it. I like the uniformity of the while building that abruptly breaks away to give you a glimpse of everyday, small scale street life then, as soon as it began, goes into another building that quickly fades into the black bar. EvilGentleman: 10th May 2006 - 18:29 GMTMaybe toss in a few buskers and an El Train, in order to maximize the "noise" aspect? Chris Erb: 10th May 2006 - 18:32 GMTYou should make a couple up that change everytime you load the page. Those are always fun. You could even get City Noise contributers to make them with glimpses of their own cities. EvilGentleman: 10th May 2006 - 18:47 GMTI love that idea, Chris! And how about an All-Time Most Popular sidebar list? jeeff: 10th May 2006 - 19:09 GMTthose are fine ideas, and everyone's equally welcome to design a banner as far as i'm concerned. however there's already a loooong list of features to be implemented before worrying too much about cosmetic changes. Peter: 10th May 2006 - 20:00 GMT...and we're getting ready to begin another major round of retooling in the next couple of weeks, which will feature means to block the IPs of comment spammers, gang-bangers and shit-talkers via an easy-to-use editorial interface. re: banners, etc... you should all feel free to contribute anything you like, inasmuch as design or suggestions go. sometimes things take time to implement, as we're all very busy outside of this site, but we always try to keep things in mind and get em going asap :) Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 10th May 2006 - 22:15 GMTI like it a lot. And I comment on layout and design all day. jeeff: 10th May 2006 - 22:49 GMTthanks catherine! groovehouse, dropshadow has been added. good suggestion. jeeff: 10th May 2006 - 22:56 GMTand as a bit of trivia, the background is from the very top-left corner of this photo:
Chris Erb: 11th May 2006 - 01:28 GMTI'm not sure what you did with the banner but the right side building no longer blends in with the rest of the black. I really liked how it did that.
EvilGentleman: 11th May 2006 - 02:09 GMTActually, I just had a possible idea. You know how you can organize the contents of Win XP folders by different criteria such as date, filename, file type, etc? Why not organize Citynoise lists in the same manner? For example, I select the Toronto page, and it shows a list of the 30 most recent posts from Toronto. But if I select "hits" and "sort ascending", then I am now looking at a list of the 30 least-heavily viewed posts from Toronto. If I then change to "author" and "sort descending", I am now looking at a list of Toronto articles by author, in reverse alphabetical order, like "torontofreelance, Tamara, spygirl, jeeff, jayeastsider, hool, Elicar, Biff" and so on... Different lists would have different options. Author lists could be sorted by city, and vice versa. The "today's article" listing is actually a complete article listing, so it could serve as the master list, where all articles could be sorted by author, hits, city, time, etc. Also a thought which I think I have already seen you mention briefly on lj, is to create category lists (such as graf, sunsets, cityscapes, ruralnoise, urban nature, Haiku, non-Haiku text, nostalgia, looking-down-at-the-ground-noise, and hool) Jamie: 11th May 2006 - 08:24 GMTEvilGent: Reast assured, it's all in the pipeline :-) EvilGentleman: 11th May 2006 - 14:02 GMTThis sounds very promising. I love Citynoise, I can hardly wait to see Citynoise Plus. Your devotion to your labour of love is very much appreciated by those of us who also benefit from it. Thank you. jeeff: I must admit, this new logo sure does a better job to evoke images of urban life. Nice one. Was I right about the intent of the original snowflake logo having something to do with the adage of no two snowflakes being the same? I will miss that logo as well, but it would appear the time has come to move on. Hey, Editors. How about posting a thread that shows the evolution of Citynoise, including pictures of the screen as it was at different stages, and descriptions of how it felt for each of you when you started to see the fruits of your labours? Kind of like the alternate soundtrack on DVD's where the actors, producers, and directors comment on the makingh of the movie. You are all becoming celebrities now, so you might as well give us the real story, before some hack paparazzi scumbag decides to create a false one. Citynoise is full of interesting stories, and I cannot think of anything that would be more interesting to us than to see and read how our favourite website came to be. I know it is probably all ancient history to you guys, but remember your audience ;-) PS - If you do post such a thread, don't forget to add a link to it on the about.php page. Jamie: 11th May 2006 - 15:14 GMT"Was I right about the intent of the original snowflake logo"
EvilGentleman: 11th May 2006 - 15:46 GMTSay, is there any way that cities could be linked together? For example, "Astoria, Queens, NY" could still appear as-is, but would also appear on the lists for Queens, NY and New York, NY. This could result in more accurate article counts for cities, since at the moment, I notice that there are actually 408 Toronto posts (actually, I just looked under the T's, there may be more), not 352, as it says on the list. Jamie: 11th May 2006 - 16:00 GMTit's true we need better nonclemature when it comes to city naming conventions.. though at present Astoria, Queens, NY articles do appear in the list for Queens, NY see for yourself www.citynoise.org/hood/queens@ny and furthermore, NY www.citynoise.org/hood/ny lists everything under NY but it all relies on people sticking to the same naming convention. You've brought up a good example with regard to Toronto. Some people post as Toronto, ON... some as Toronto, Canada... and others as just Toronto Let's move this discussion to the lj community though, as we're veering way off topic now :-) Jamie: 11th May 2006 - 16:03 GMT
EvilGentleman: 11th May 2006 - 17:28 GMTawesome, as far as the city-sorting goes. the peter-kebab is something else, all right. Good artwork, not so sure about the pose, mind you. LOL And the upper lip area looks a bit Fuhrer-like... or worse yet, Leah-beating motorist-like. Poor Peter... sort of like ppl that keep telling me I look like that idiot Michael Moore. Thanks for the pic. Comment on this article..[previous] :: [next] |
