Lake Ontario Ducks

The same morning we saw the sun rise in Tyendinaga, we wound up in , where I started shooting the Penitentiary and Kingston's old Yonge Street. While taking the shots of the Penitentiary from across , I saw these in a small park at the edge of Lake Ontario. They did not seem to be at all afraid of people, so I was able to get quite close to them.

elaine: never mind the mallards...;-)

When I lived in Coral Harbour, Nunavut, I remember people there would not hunt ducks. Not that they did not like ducks, just that ducks were so much smaller than geese, which were everywhere. The area was a major nesting area for snow geese, which could create weird sights, since they moulted while raising their young, so they were unable to fly. Sometimes, you would see a hill turn white, then turn green again, but now the lake beside it was white, and soon it was blue again. What we were actually seeing were colonies of thousands of geese running across the tundra in a tightly-packed bunch.

i like the idea that google earth has a tag pointing out ducks.

EvilGentleman: 10th May 2006 - 02:46 GMT

Bird tags have been around for a while ;-)

Actually, I dunno why, but I did that with the 1996 version of MGI PhotoSuite SE. I got used to the interface years ago, so I keep copying the program to my new computers. It has a really good screen capture ability.

i like the additon of maps to this post. nice idea

EvilGentleman: 10th May 2006 - 16:20 GMT

Thanks, Jamie. I got the idea from an article I saw by sine, and was spurred to action in one of my posts by joey.

It's still moving but not the top 6 inches or so. You can see it's still flowing over the lock in the background.
