Abandoned Homestead & Spring Garden

- GGP - Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006 : goo

Down the road is an unused road lined on either side with towering old horse-chestnut trees. The road leads to what little is left of someone's home--mostly old stone foundation, garbage and appliances that will never biodegrade. My elderly neighbor tells me that the "bachelor" who lived there was a naturalist.

It's kind of a mournful little spot, but in springtime there's a treat to be found: a little echo of the human happiness that might once have resided there.

Nice. Reminds me of the countless times I have come across some abandoned site and wondered who had been there, what did they do, and why?
