Critter in the Basement

I love this spotted salamander. Once or twice a year s/he makes an appearance in the basement. Last summer I found one at the bottom of the compost pile. They're like little gods--so regal!

i always wanted a blue-spotted salamander or a slime mould as a pet when i was a kid, inspired by a book called of kinkajous, capybaras, horned beetles, seladangs, and the oddest and most wonderful mammals, insects, birds, and plants of our world (phew). i knew that both ranged through southwestern ontario forests, where i grew up. i'm still bitter that i never found either. i still want them as pets.

btw, here's the book: www.amazon.com/gp/product/156852515X/104-7056410-5091131?v=glance&n=283155

that book sound right up my alley! plus, I love books with unapologetically long-winded titles!
I used to volunteer at the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals as a kid, and in their Education Dept. they had a kinkajou (also known as a honey bear). A beautiful creature with a prehensive tail with which it would hang onto your arm. I was mad about it!

Whe I saw the name of this post I was hoping in was either a Morlock or Cthtulu, but this little fellow is almost as nice. I like the way he's perfectly in line with the stick.

jack: 19 yellow spots.

yes, and each spot a little different, as if hand-painted.

But can he help you save money by switching insurance?
