Fighting or Frolicking?

There is this park at UBC here in Vancouver that has always boggled my mind. It resembles something like a pit for fighting, but it's set in a peaceful, suburban/university area and it's lined with daisies and picnic tables. Maybe the designer had something else in mind, but regardless I've always wondered what the story behind it was.

This is my first post, and hopefully there will be more to follow. Thanks for all the wonderful photos and stories.

Haha, the slabs of cement at either side look like places where the two opposing side would stand and stare eachother down. Then, at the signal, they run at eachother just go at it. There would be people lined all around the circle. The slabs of cement could even be dividing lines for each opposing sides' specatators.

I imagine this is used more for picnics and frisbee than battles which I would argue are much better uses.

Thanks for posting! I love when people who have been "lurking" come out with their own stuff. Took me a year! I look forward to your future posts.

actually it is a time mechanism placed here by aliens. it was supposed to go around stonehenge but the navigator was drunk and dropped it here. he kept on screaming, "where are my big rocks, where are my big rocks, they're going to fall if i dont get this time ring around them" and so today as you drive around the countryside you will see signs, 'watch out for falling rocks'.
