My Lion Has Got No Nose

- Catherine Penfold-Waxman - Thursday, April 13th, 2006 : goo

Take a close look at the lion on the right. He is missing his nose. Poor bugger.

These lions are attached to this building (the filthy windows mar the view a bit):

I was on the 13th floor of a building on 5th Ave and 21st street today. I was recording a radio ad at Soundlounge. Trapped between the sound-proofed windows was a green gnome. He looks quite happy to be there. In the background is the lion building.

i hate it when that happens!
but it seems to happen to a lot of stone lions, you know?

EvilGentleman: 13th Apr 2006 - 23:05 GMT

I wonder how the damage occurred? The freezing and thawing cycle? Lightning? A malicious window-cleaner? A collision with a 50-pound pigeon? Someone opening the window between the lions and whacking icicles off of the lion's nose with a metal rod?

I think I need a life...

GGP: or the slow chomp-chomp of acid rain?

Jamie: How does he smell?

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 14th Apr 2006 - 13:16 GMT

....terrible! (Sound effect: rim shot).
If I had told it in German, it would have been the killing joke.

joey: 15th Apr 2006 - 02:53 GMT

when the nose fell, did the nose fall on an unsuspecting pedestrian?
catherine- did you write the ad? or are you a voice over personality?

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 15th Apr 2006 - 12:18 GMT

Hi Joey, I write ads, but this particular one was not my creative. I was just re-recording parts of it and overseeing (overhearing?) the edit. Having an English accent in New York, I have been approached to voice over both TV and radio ads at my agency. But I am not an actor and I get horribly flustered and can't stand the pressure. I can present to a room full of clients on a $100 million account no problem. But talk into a mike in a soundproof box? Hell no. I freak out and hide under my desk, whimpering, "I used to be Prime Minister, you know."

Elicar: So, when did you change your name, Margaret? ;)

Jamie: 15th Apr 2006 - 13:12 GMT

i like the gnome. does he pass wind when he detects motion?

elaine: 15th Apr 2006 - 17:03 GMT

maybe i could do that. i have done voice before, and in america my accent becomes unaccountably julie andrewsish, which is probably a good thing..is it?

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: 16th Apr 2006 - 14:12 GMT

julie andrews all the way, baby!

Kato: 19th Apr 2006 - 14:49 GMT

I can growl like a lion and sting like a, sorry forgotten what I sting like. Something Tibetan.
