Paul, the rooster, lived in the basement with a few feral cats at BARC. He got along fine with the cats but liked to charge and attack the humans. We had an "understanding" as I would charge him first and pick him up to give him hugs.

One of the most dintinguishing features of my cats was that three of them could bark. You see, when I was a toddler my parents had our cat, as well as a succession of dogs. For the first four years of our cat's life, the only creatures he saw with fur resembling his were our dogs, so he somehow had learned to bark. When we had gotten rid of our last dog, we got a second cat. The first cat then taught the second cat to bark, while still a kitten. A number of years later, the first cat died, so we got another cat. The second cat now taught the new cat how to bark as well. Then about eight years after that, we got a pet rabbit. For some reason, this rabbit had carnivorous tendencies, and would eat meat, especially pork. The rabbit would also snarl when it felt threatened. The end result is that one day I am sitting in the living room, the rabbit has just stolen the meat from my sandwich, which attracts the cats. The cats got too close, and the rabbit snarled and took a swipe at one of the cats, causing both cats to retreat and start barking at the rabbit. God forbid if someone had ever decided to bring a dog to visit our home, the poor creature would have needed an animal psychiatrist after a day at my place. So remember, people. Be careful what creatures your pets interact with. The results can be bizarre, and last for generations.

I loved, loved ,loved this story, although it is hard to believe your rabbit's "carnivouros tendencies". Great!!!

I suppose it is possible that the processed ham and bologna that the rabbit preferred may have had some non-animal product mixed in with it, but he was definitely eating meat. Although his usual favourite food was lettuce, and he hated carrots. But oddly, I remember the cats also would do weird things, too. I left a bag from McDonald's on the table when I came in one day, and I ran off to the washroom. When I came back, there were hamburger patties strewn all over, mixed with bits of styrofoam packaging (remember those?) The cats were busy munching on the hamburger buns, but would not eat the hamburger patties. Kind of makes me wonder what is in a McDonald's hamburger patty. Scary.
