Ministry of Education Interior Design

- Lukasz Godlewski - Wednesday, April 5th, 2006 : goo

That building was erected in 1927-1930, designed by Zdzislaw Maczenski for Ministry of Religion and Public Education, (today just Ministry of Education).

The building survived World War II cause Germans picked that place for headquarters of Gestapo police. Underground they organised jail that usually people didn't leave.
I know a man who spent there one night when he was 8 years old casue Germans were looking for his father. They let him go home next day but he saw and heard a lot...Today there is a museum in prison space, you can still read on walls inscriptions of prisoners.

Inside of ministry space nothing really has changed from `30. I had an opportunity to visit it and take some pictures. That Art Deco interior design is shown in polish architecture literature as a great example of polish decorative art of `30. I hope you will like it :)
