a poem i wrote in 1977. it is a pantoum. a remarkable type of poem because you use the same lines for each new stanza. it kinda goes like this, abab bcbc cdcd dada. here goes.

warm tomatoes

old spotty and me we had fun
in fresh plowed rows eight inches high,
eating warm tomatoes under an august sun
and spotty with his head on my thigh.

in fresh plowed rows eight inches high
shaded by tomatoe plants so green,
and spotty with his head on my thigh
both of us so quiet we were never seen.

shaded by tomatoe plants so green
as we listened to the hoe do its work,
both of us so quiet we were never seen
as grandpa unconcerned, weeded out his dirt.

as we listened to the hoe do its work
old spotty and me we had fun,
as grandpa unconcerned, weeded out his dirt
eating warm tomatoes under an august sun.

authors note: as a boy i would lay down in my grandfathers field under the tomatoe plants and would pull one off the vine and scrape off the dirt that had dried up due to watering and i would eat it fresh and warm and my dog spotty would lay down on me between my legs and put his face on my stomach and take a bite of my tomatoe. he ate tomatoes, a real italian dog.

great pantoum. that's a fun poetic form, isn't it jack? fits nicely with the garden theme, the soft cyclical feel of warm summer day. real nice.

London's a big place, you know. I just moved, and had a sift through a vast archive of phone photos, I'll let the images speak. I'd upload more, but I'm tired. Citynoise for you: Sloane Sq War Memorial, the plaque below...
