Multidick

As far as corporate names go, this one is pretty unique. They seem to make or deal with printing equipment of some sort.

This is a view of the front of the building that they used to operate from.

image 9891
The old parking lot of whatever used to be next door has become pretty badly ruptured.

image 9892
The elevated road is the Trans-Canada Highway. This view is of the west side of the building.

image 9893
More of the west side of the old Multidick Building, with some local graf visible.

image 9894
A view of junk along the back of the building.

image 9895
A graf tag and a fire alarm bell with "Dominion Sprinkler Co. Ltd. Montreal" still visible on it, despite the bell cover being almost completely covered with soot from the exhaust of all the cars going by, except for a tiny patch at the bottom where the red is still showing through the grime.

image 9896
The front door has a note explaining where they have moved to. Must check that site out one of these days. Note also the grimy reflections in the window, as well as the 1970's style block letters on the inner glass door inside.

A different view of the front

The owls still stand guard, waiting for the return of life within the walls of their abode.

I would work at Multidick, even if they they were Spammers, just to be able to hand out my business cards at parties. Sigh.

jack: 25th Mar 2006 - 17:10 GMT

i think it is a place where they sold multilith presses. a company called A B DICK made those type of printing presses years ago.

torontofreelance: 25th Mar 2006 - 20:59 GMT

I think Multidick is the Canadian operation of the computer Wang. Until recently it was run my this fellow.

You MUST get pictures from Le Corbusier blvd. I can just imagine it: Different traffic levels of roads going into the boulevard then when you get there all you see are great big towers made of unfinished concrete and lots of useless greenspace and arcades around them.

Chris Erb: 1st May 2006 - 03:56 GMT

I looked it up on Google Earth. It's actually quite an awful place. It's a long stretch of highway with what appears to be huge malls, parking lots, warehouses and large plots of empty land.

EvilGentleman: 1st May 2006 - 04:03 GMT

Somewhat like the place they left, minus the malls.

EvilGentleman: 27th Aug 2006 - 10:28 GMT

My wife and I drove by here with Chris yesterday. Multidick has been demolished, all that is left is the concrete pad. The owls stand guard no more.

ian: 27th Aug 2006 - 21:10 GMT

I like the idea of having a business on Le Corbusier Blvd!

Former Multidick Employee: 16th Sep 2008 - 21:19 GMT

Some did get it right they did sell multilith presses and A B Dick presses, that where the name came from Multi and Dicks. Unfortunately the company went bankrupt in 2006.

Franny Wentzel: 24th Aug 2009 - 22:09 GMT

Sadly they were done in by the competative juggernaut that was the Numerous-Dinkus corporation...
