yay s!

EvilGentleman: 23rd Mar 2006 - 17:56 GMT

I wonder if my carving on the tree at the bottom of the 60-foot waterfalls in Shenandoah NP is still visible...

elaine: 23rd Mar 2006 - 18:27 GMT

sneak!
this tree would be easier to check, being, as it is, in the middle of viccy park. location is everything, evilgengleman. i saw it from a distance with a bit of sunlight kissing it. the sunlight was gone by the time i gained the tree, but i took a LOT of photos, it was tough to choose between them.

Elicar: 23rd Mar 2006 - 18:29 GMT

I'd like to see the whole tree! It must be majestic!

jack: 23rd Mar 2006 - 18:46 GMT

actually i know that tree. originally 267 years ago there were four trees all clustered together and a terrible storm was brewing (much like this story in my head) and the trees started to worry saying, "oh my, will we be blown away from our roots, what can we do?" and so the trees started to lean together and by chance there were 2 male and 2 female and they all got very close together to protect each other and they found they liked the feeling of being close and together and so they stayed that way and eventually became entangled by the branches, (editors note here, i dont think they knew which branch belonged to which trunk). so the years passed along and the tree grew and grew and became one tree. now there is a tale, (and a large one) about lovers passing under that tree and if they kiss in the moonlight they will have a happy and safe life.

now i don't know about this but does the tree look like lovers entangled together. what do you think and please no wise cracks about my sanity.

jeeff: 23rd Mar 2006 - 18:46 GMT

aw man, i thought the heart was my tag. now i have to think of a new one.

elaine: shame.

EvilGentleman: 24th Mar 2006 - 03:33 GMT

jack, there is a futuristic post-apocalyptic series of pulp fiction sci-fi novels called Deathlands (Gold Eagle Books) that I read. The character of Doc Tanner is supposed to have been kidnapped across time from his home in 1890's Vermont to a late 1990's secret American military research center, then when he proved too difficult to handle, he was disposed of by dumping him forward to the year 2100, 99 years AFTER the nuclear holocaust of 2001. The charm of his character is how he describes a world of 2 centuries before to the children of survivors of the apocalypse. You, jack, remind me soooo much of his character, who is elderly, a bit mad, and definitely a treasure to behold, especially when you spin tales such as the one above.

Now would you please post an article? Even a simple text story without photos would be greatly appreciated. I think I speak for hundreds, if not thousands of others when I say that you add a flavour of lightheartedness to this website, and that an article from you would be a phenomenonal hit.

And elaine, that tree is awesome. I wonder how many members of the Royal Family have passed that very tree and gazed upon it? How many lovers have gazed into one another's eyes under those very branches? I guess we will never know, and that only adds to the mystique.

elaine: 24th Mar 2006 - 09:50 GMT

actually, evilgentleman, this park was the first public park EVAR that wasn't a royal park. it was devised, in what was a totally radical way at the time as a 'people's park'. super duper, is my view. i love viccy park. but by the prepondency of hearts carved into it's trunk i would say you were on the money with the lovers. it's a very sexy tree, sort of voluptuous.

Micah: 25th Mar 2006 - 13:54 GMT

I don't want to get too off-topic here but I have to say that I agree with EvilGentleman's last posting, above. Jack, why don't you make your own post(s)? I know I for one love to read what you write and from what I see on here so do many others. Go for it!
Do I need to take drastic measures?
We, the undersigned, hereby request that Jack make postings on citynoise.

Catherine Penfold-Waxman: I second that emotion.

tom: i think that is an intresting tree
