reminds me I want to go there one day. I like that sleeping dog sculpture in the snow!

elaine: 8th Mar 2006 - 15:47 GMT

i do too. there are two very scruffy dog sculptures in viccy park, but i can't find any photos, although i remember taking them. i hereby promise to take these photos again again again until i do it right

procyon: 12th Mar 2006 - 22:37 GMT

i always thought the story about the sculpture was cute (from hydepark.org):
"A special treasure greets one upon emerging from the underpass, the David Wallach Memorial Fountain. In 1894, David Wallach (about whom little is known) left a sum for a sculpture and fountain in a park that would slake the thirst of man and beast. The David Wallach Memorial was installed and dedicated in 1939. Elizabeth Haseltine Hibbard designed the bronze fawn, and her husband Frederick Cleveland Hibbard designed the fountain which has a pool at the base that serves pets and wildlife. Of course, the fountain has leaked periodically. The fawn was stolen at one time, but recovered. The polished brownish granite base is about 2 billion years old, with wonderful crystaline facets of feldspar, biolite, mica, and hornblende."
