elaine: home of el infanta de castille, allegedly

an impossible child: 25th Feb 2006 - 19:22 GMT

who was she? (doubt she lived in a council estate, eh? :) )

elaine: 25th Feb 2006 - 20:19 GMT

there is an argument that 'elepahant and castle' is a corruption of 'el infanta de castille' and that this was where a mistress of charles 1st lived. it's a contraversial theory, though. www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-ele1.htm

elaine: 25th Feb 2006 - 20:24 GMT

controversial, that is, before the spelling police arrive

elaine: nice picture, by the way.

an impossible child: 26th Feb 2006 - 13:12 GMT

thats really interesting (the etymology i mean)

thanks :)

elaine: yr welcome. i believe it, thousands don't.

Peter: thats a fascinating link, elaine...

jack: 27th Feb 2006 - 15:29 GMT

thanks elaine, i believe i may know something that my daughter may not have knowledge of and so i can use this in our evening discussions after dinner tonight. reading is so important!

jesus: 27th Feb 2006 - 17:38 GMT

as well as general etymology i am interested in place names, and london is so old and the place names can be so historically knotted that it is not always possible to undo to a point of resolution, but the poetic is fascinating and the stories are all part of the legend.

elaine: 27th Feb 2006 - 17:39 GMT

whoops, that was me, but my puter thinks i'm jesus!

grange: 27th Feb 2006 - 18:55 GMT

Thanks for the link Elaine .good reading .Oh and the picture is very cool

grange: 27th Feb 2006 - 22:11 GMT

Elaine , theres a message on a lamp post for you? Call home !

elaine: busted! i am jesus, after all.

an impossible child: 28th Feb 2006 - 10:42 GMT

dear jesus
hello there :)

grange: thanks

re place names: i love the city for this very reason (city on saturdays & sundays when the aliens have gone back to their semidetached homes wherever), the city & east end are just beautiful & quite magickal i think

elaine: 28th Feb 2006 - 12:25 GMT

i agree. since i iessed up my life/health/whatever and have no reason to be here exactly sometimes i think i should be elsewhere... but where else is there? (for me)

an impossible child: 28th Feb 2006 - 13:22 GMT

elaine, else is anywhere you want it to be? x
