Williamsburgh Savings Bank
[previous] :: [next]Some of the detail visible from street level. The exterior of this magnificent building is adorned with carvings, many (all?) representative of various aspects of banking and savings. (I was unable to get shots of the beehive images, which of course represent savings and industriousness, and the implications of the wonderful lions are obvious. Then there are the wise owls. I wonder if the turtle and birds represent some aspect of savings/finance as well...musings from citynoisers are welcomed!) Light fixtures on the ceiling over the subway entrance leading to the base of the clocktower.
