Dresser Day!

Trash day in is always interesting, but apparently yesterday's trash-day was one of the semi-annual days where you can put out large objects and other for pickup by the city.

In a seemingly strange synchronicity, I saw discarded all over the neighborhood, up and down the avenues and streets. These photos alone show over ten, lining Avenue...

I am starting to carry a real around alot more now, as opposed to merely the , so if I see more on the way home today, I'll add them to this entry.

One wonders where all the clothes that used to live in all those dressers live now! Poor clothes. Someone please give them a new ...

elaine: 22nd Feb 2006 - 15:18 GMT

ooh! exciting! free stuff, and 3D stuff to look at, all good!

Peter: 22nd Feb 2006 - 15:22 GMT

since i had on my big winter army boots, i kicked in the front of the one sitting in the street in the first photo whilst waiting to cross the avenue. it was a good release after a long day of work ;)

elaine: yay, free stuff to kick!

jack: 22nd Feb 2006 - 15:47 GMT

by the way the people are looking for you peter, and now i know who did that kicking and they want to thank you because in the old dresser was there grandmothers money box which they found. by the way, how do i post pic's. i click on 'upload photos' and follow all the directions but my photos never get there.

Peter: 22nd Feb 2006 - 15:52 GMT

jack: thx peter, i'm working on it.

Peter: 22nd Feb 2006 - 16:01 GMT

totally. my favorite is when theres a bin full of discarded fluorescent lamp tubes... muahahaha!

jack: 22nd Feb 2006 - 16:05 GMT

i know, the thrill of hearing them explode. but don't inhale the smoke.

Peter: ...and beware the glass-shards!

joey: 22nd Feb 2006 - 17:31 GMT

when i was a kid we lived near a general electric lamp testing facility called, nela park. anyway one part of the dump was filled with fluorescent lamp tubes. somedays we would spend hours breaking all we could get our hands on. my favorite way to break a tube was to throw it like a spear. once in a while one of us would get cut badly and would need to go home for first aid.

jeeff: 22nd Feb 2006 - 17:43 GMT

right after highschool i worked in a warehouse with a slightly crazy gap-toothed man who was terrified of fluorescent lights. particularly, he was scared of the gases inside making him go blind. one day he was driving the forklift, raised the forks too high (he was angry at me and being a spazz) and broke a light above himself. he ran out of the building and never came back.

Peter: 22nd Feb 2006 - 21:06 GMT

hahaha jeff! too bad no one told him was harmless. its the white coating he should have been worried about (though even it, in such amounts, should be rather harmless)... though i guess that vaporizes some when one of em bursts...

anyway, heres to quirky people with weird phobias!

colavito's ghost: 23rd Feb 2006 - 05:58 GMT

the other night, after a long night of drinking i was walking home with a buddy. we saw on the curb a colt 45 box full of 40s. i assumed they were all empty and awaiting trash pick-up.

out of stupidity and drunkenness i reached my hand in the box, grabbed one of the bottles, and pulled it out. much to my surprise, the bottle was not empty, half-empty, or even half-full. it was full up to the tippy-top........with URINE!!! the whole box (24, i think) was full of unrine-filled bottles. totally gross and amazing!

anyone have a plausible explanation for this?

jeeff: 23rd Feb 2006 - 15:38 GMT

oh we all told him it was harmless. didn't make much difference to him.

jack: 23rd Feb 2006 - 20:15 GMT

does howard hughes live there, who knows? probably someone's toilet isn't working and he had all those bottles anyway.

EvilGentleman: 24th Feb 2006 - 04:44 GMT

I remember playing with fluorescent light bulbs as a teenager, usually in mock swordfights. Man, those things make a mess when they impact each other that way.

Is that Vanderbilt Ave. and St. Marks Ave. Looks like old Joe Barker's Deli to me and if you cross St. Marks Ave. you will come to the Blue Room Bar. I think thats the place, it's been so many years.
