wow where is that and what are the nameds of the bridge

champ: now read my story it is there

joey: 8th May 2006 - 03:16 GMT

i think the blue steel bridge on top is the superior ave bridge. it connects cleveland east side with the west side. the river and the flats is in the middle of both sides.

The top bridge is the Veteran's Memorial Bridge, or the Detroit-Superior Bridge. I don't know what the little one is called, but it's a pretty neat swing bridge. It pivots in the middle, which means half the bridge is over land to clear the Cuyahoga for the big ol' ships that manuveur the curvaceous river. Cuyahoga supposedly means crooked river in an American Indian tongue.

also in the background you can see lorain-carnege bridge, where [http://www.citynoise.org/article/5318/in/cleveland@oh] that post was shot. Then there is the Rapid transit bridge, the redline after it leaves ohio city, before tower city. The lift bridge in the background is for choo choo trains.

MGerlich: 11th Dec 2006 - 21:23 GMT

The red bridge is the Columbus Ave or Road bridge, which is a link between the East and West banks of the the river (and The Flats)

i recently found out that "cuyahoga" doesn't mean "crooked river," after all. that would be a bit too literal, don't you think?

the name of the river, in fact, derives from a native american word meaning "jawbone"....poetic!

joey: 17th Jan 2010 - 21:44 GMT

thanks to wkikpedia + The Cuyahoga River[6] (pronounced /ˌkaɪəˈhɒɡə/ KYE-ə-HOG-ə, or /ˌkaɪəˈhoʊɡə/ KYE-ə-HOE-gə)[7][8][9][10] is located in Northeast Ohio in the United States. Outside of Ohio, the river is most famous for being "the river that caught fire", helping to spur the environmental movement in the late 1960s. Native Americans called this winding water "Cuyahoga," which means "crooked river" in the Iroquois language.

Chinese Lunar New Year NYC

Wil and I went downtown today for the Chinese Lunar New Year Firecracker ceremony and cultural festival. The firecracker detonation is intended to ward off evil spirits... Regrettably, some of these come out rotated online, and I'm not sure why, haven't...
