In March 2005, I had to go to Montreal for surgery. The day after the surgery (March 30), I walked past the ER waiting room at 8AM and saw this.
This happened at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Pointe-Claire, Quebec. For the last few years, all I have heard about the hospital system is how horrible the waiting times are, always at least 4 hours, and sometimes as much as 18 hours. This kind of makes me wonder how much of this was media hype and how much was reality. I have never had to wait more than 45 minutes in this hospital.

As near as I can make out it says, "To be seen in the emergency room, please -- --- ----- ----" Guess I shoulda used the flash. I was still groggy from getting my gall bladder ripped out, wasn't thinking too clearly.

Why did they remove your gall bladder? Did you get to see it after they took it out? I kept my tonsils for 13 years until I stupidly left them with my bother when I came to New York. He instantly threw them out. My dream was to have them made into a keyring, sadly unrealised.

It is really hard to get to keep anything in Quebec these days. My son did not even get his tooth back from the dentist, cuz it was considered biological waste once it was no longer attached to him. I have heard the only exception to this rule is in the case of aborted or miscarried fetuses, and even then, it is only to be released to an undertaker.

My wife and I have since been back and have experienced 6 or 7-hour waits (2 hours for triage, and 3 to see an actual doctor, and finally, another hour or two for the doctor to wander back with a diagnosis)

I had to wait in outpatience for about 9 hours once. ironically, the nurs said she figured my chest pains were probably a result of my galbladder going on the fritz. it turned out I was drinking too much apple juice (I wasn't used to city water) so there was too much acid in my stomach.
