I am very curious, why do you think this is for anti-terror as opposed to good recycling habits ... you can see in the bags to get at the recyclable product. I travel the subway all the time and I have never heard anti-terrorist being used ... just asking

Peter: 3rd Feb 2006 - 19:00 GMT

here in nyc, in the days following the , the ystarted replacing conventional garbage containers with clear ones... and it was a widespread and piblicized fact (p.r. manoeuvre?) that this was done for purposes. see this entry from may of last year...

Matthew: 3rd Feb 2006 - 19:22 GMT

That's a pretty useless idea about the see through garbage bags. How many people are really going to take a good look in the bag?

Another thing in the picture is that all the different baggs have newspapers - what's the point of recycling if all the morons in the city (yes, you're most likely part of that exclusive club) don't or can't follow simple instructions?

Ken: 3rd Feb 2006 - 21:35 GMT

Before London bomb, gabage can made by heavy stone. Nobody can see inside. Anyway, one of the bags is contained with coffee. If a bag have a hole, we can check what MIXED COFFEE is. Also, good thing is we can use gabage can as a BASKETBALL RING...^^

Laura : ummmm, I'm lost there.

jeeff: i'm feeling less terrified already.

martin Zeilinger: no, it's for illiterate litterers.

EvilGentleman: 4th Feb 2006 - 19:08 GMT

Wow, how intelligent. Now terrorists will be forced to wrap their bombs in newspapers, if they still want to bomb recycling bins. At least the police will now know that anyone carrying a parcel wrapped in newspapers is a recycling bin terrorist. Good job. That was a lot of money well spent. And I am certain the merchants and residents of the area appreciate their new colouful decor. I just hope the OLD bins were recyclable.

First they think they are the centre of Hockey with the falling Leafs, now they actually think someone would want to terrorize them. But yah never know, here is a photo I took so I would recognize Toronto from the air next time I want to dive .......!!!!!image 8231

jeeff: mmm, smoggy

alex: 5th Feb 2006 - 17:52 GMT

why are people so lazy to recycle and take care of our planet? isnt it cheaper than throwing everything in the trash? where i live now we have to pay 2 dollars for every bag of garbage and recycling is free...

Metoo: 5th Feb 2006 - 18:36 GMT

they keep talking about charging for every bag of garbage here also. But the biggest concern is that people will then think of ways to not have to pay, like dropping the garbage in the countryside or at construction sites etc. Maybe, the answer is to charge for every bag of groceries that you start off with from the store?!?

anonymous coward: 7th Feb 2006 - 23:03 GMT

actually i read somewhere they switched to bags to prevent shrapnel if the regular stone garbage bin ever blew up......

Lawrence: 9th Feb 2006 - 09:30 GMT

In London too, they use clear bags on the underground. Also, any other potiential places bombs can be planted have security seals, much like cds or computer cases which once opened, break the seal. Been the usual practice since the IRA threat, did sod all to protect London against suicide bombers though.

I was recently working in Afghanistan which is not the safest place. I was given training on what to look out for and what to do. Most things are common sense but the biggest thing is to look out for things that look odd. If there is brief case in a closed container I wouldn't notice it, but if I saw it sitting on a bench with nobody around I would notify the proper people. What is the difference in sitting on a bench or in a garbage can?
This may seem like a silly thing here in canada but in other parts of the world it is very serious. And no we don't have to worry about terrorist here in Canada because the Taliban is soooo happy we are in Afghanistan. Wake up people it is going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

The Darth Vader Building

Ever since I moved to Seattle, I've called this building The Darth Vader Building. At night it looks glossy, black, and evil. That's really the only connection, no one else knows what I mean when I mention the DVB... I could...
