Saturday was beautiful, and I took a late afternoon walk to the East River. Though the light was waning, the pix came out ok.

My ultimate goal of the walk was to photograph Gracie Mansion. I had forgotten about the fortress surrounding it. This is taken on tip-toe. (For out-of-towners, Gracie Mansion is the traditional dwelling of the in-term mayor. Mayor Mike does not live in Gracie Mansion, however, he resides in his own residence on the upper east side- not too far away from this location).

My favorite part of Saturday was watching all the dogs at the dog run. It was a gorgeous day, and there were lots of dogs there enjoying themselves.

Hey, those are great pictures, they turned out fine. I really like the one of "John Finley Walk", the "Dog Run" and the Bridge. Those are well captured photos. The bridge picture has nice soft muted tones. The John Finley Walk photo is neat as the sign is the eye catcher but has a very picturesque background. The dog run, that intrigues me, I've never seen a setup like that before, also, what exactly is in the background behind the trees. With the lighting in that photo it almost looks like everything else is just kind of floating.

I absolutely love dog runs- what a fabulous invention. You bring your own dog (ours is "Bryan," a Jackie), who has a great time, and then you get to play with all the other dogs! This particular park, Carl Schultz park, is great because it is on the river. It has two runs, one for big dogs (pictured), and another for little dogs like Bryan. The run is right infront of the path pictured, so Jono Cono, you are seeing the trees infront of the river. So everything indeed does look like its floating. And thanks for the Kudos!

i never saw a dog run like that either before i visited new york. i like how they all have wood chips on the ground. reminded me of a giant hamster cage.

My mother has just corrected me- the park is not Carl Schultz park (I always thought it was!) It's Carl something else that sounds like Schultz Park. She wanted it to be known that I was misinforming my readers :) So if anyone knows the correct name, post on!

Haha- nice connection, Elaine. I always pity dogs with cones. They always look like they're completely embarrassed, like the other dogs have been saying cruel things to them. Poor things.

Carl Schurz Park: It’s easy to hear this park’s name and think Carl Schultz, the creator of the beloved Charlie Brown cartoons. In reality, Carl Schurz Park was named in 1910 to honor the soldier, statesman, and journalist Carl Schurz (1829-1906). memories,1953,and that era,walking along the "boardwalk", as we called it. We (7 children ), and mom leading the way--from our walkup on east 81st.A pleasant outing. A playground, a fountain spray for tots in summer, and the East River, that mystery lends, hells gate.The oldest brother-grabbing the dilly dally doll from the 3 yr. old brother and saying ".Turn the faucet on when you get home, it will pop right out "No dog parks then- we all would have had fun watching the playful goings on.

I have loved Carl Schultz park since I was a teenager, I use to go there and sit by th water.
It brings great memories, even now.

I used to love this park I have lived in the area for decades but after an unfortunate run in with a parks police officer I no longer go there. These PEPs are out for any fines they can levy and they are thugs. If you are a female with a dog be very careful you are easy prey for them. I avoid this park now and no longer enjoy it.

Thanks for the memories: that is, in the 1970's when I lived off 89th and East End, my husband and I used to walk our Siamese cat (who thought he was a dog!) in the early evenings, without a leash (don't tell) and he would follow us close to our heels, and when we sat on a bench, he would jump on one too and watch the activities. Not so good memories...there was a lot of crime, even a block away from Gracie Mansion, in those days.

Back in the 1970's and 80's Carl shultz park was a dangerous place. Especially at night.
