Defunct Radio Tower At Dusk

The defunct ROCK 101-KLOL radio tower in Houston. ROCK 101-KLOL was the premiere rock radio station in Houston for over 20 years until several months ago when the media mongrels that are Clear Channel decided to remove them from the air and replace KLOL with a Hispanic radio station. The people protested, but of course, their pleas fell on deaf ears.

Here's a site sorta dedicated to KLOL - www.richardsfault.com/KLOL1967/

wow! this is an intersting story... that link is great, btw. thanks for sharing this.

bland corporate radio is why i rarely listen to the radio now. i prefer short-wave lately...

thats the problen today. stations get taken over and people lose there music. for me there are some golden oldies for me to listen to but i remember growing up and listening to radio wnew 1130 martin block had a show called the make believe ballroom and he played the greatest of big bands and swing. its gone now and there is not one single station in the new york area that plays the great standards. its all rap and spanish. thats where the money is being spent and the record companies love them.

theres plenty of at the low end of the dial, jack, and it varies from area to area. though id imagine its probably a bit modern for your tastes, its at least good to see that some folks dont hesitate to take things into their own hands ;)

I'm a huge fan of WFMU, broadcasting in New Jersey, but picked up all around the globe online at www.wfmu.org/. It's publicly -funded freeform radio at it's best. My favorite is a show called teenage wasteland. Here's an ad from my portfolio for it:

there is a great group called the bristol fashion. they have a web site,(i think), but their music is played over seas on bbc. check them out. see i may be older but i can dig some groovy sounds, lol.

Oh BTW that is not the broadcast tower. That may be the STL (Studio Transmitter Link) that gets the signal from the programming studio to the broadcast site which is out in Dewalt.
